Can someone explain the theory behind this website for me?

The goal is to rank for thousands of keywords and get people to click on the ads.

A working model but it's better to go niche or even sub-niche specific these days. General sites have very hard time ranking. You cannot be expert on everything and engines know this.

The whole thing has 0 organic traffic, I don' think it's working in this case.

is he relying on traffic being webmasters who check backlinks? He links a million references on every article

They probably think including these references will help them be more liked by search engines.

Come to think of it, this might be a good way to get more traffic coz the content is very generic.

But why Quora can rank even though its a website that answers about any topic ?

Quora has user generated content hence you can call it a web 2.0
It's not ranking for every keyword. If there isn't an proper answer of a specific quary on Authority sites, then Quora hits the first spot. Quora is ranking for millions of such kind of low competition keywords. Another thing is search intent, if a particular discussion on Quora satisfies the search intent, then again Quora comes on top.

tons and tons of information about general topics, all questions, thousands of links to references. Disgusting amount of ads How can this be profitable?
Info niche always has tons of easy ranking opportunities.

So, too many topics contribute towards the organic traffic and make it profitable with ads.

Quora has the authority.

Ever heard of parasite seo and properties, they work on same concept.

You create a rankable content and put it on a authority website, then rank easily and drive traffic to your page.
Just 45 short of a double hundred :D

But its ranking for lots of long tail Q&A keywords.

It seems like Google prefer user generated content type of sites

Users are not machines or aliens. It has people who are knowledgeable in their field.
As @MKSKS said, Quora is an authority site. If a discussion is worth ranking, it would rank.
YT also has user generated content but that doesn't mean it has shitty content.

They use bots to scrape and answer PAA
You can use tools like SEO minion to bulk export such data

It is an exception.

Ancient website with massive link profile and trust.

New websites don't have that privilege.

It's not impossible to rank general website, just very hard.

Doesn't look like it's ranking for much (3-4 keywords) on the main domain, so it probably already got the google banhammer.

reviving this because I just ran into one and got curious. It is hard for me not to notice and check out because it is copying and reposting all my articles moments after publish even on the
fresh site new journey site I was working on. I truely wonder if they get enough webmasters clicking the backlinks to really make this actually get them money.

It is a bit worrying to me how fast it is reposting my content but it seems google doesnt even rank it so it doesnt compete with me.

I must wonder how on earth such shit got some of those backlinks and why did the creator even care for the backlinks when the main domain doesnt rank.

Searching about this only brings you back to this thread but here is a little funny thing I saw lol.

remove the spaces obviously.

Some websites even place transparent ads above the content. That is, they create a layer above, covering the entire content. So when you click on any location, Adsense ads will pop up.

It's fucked up, but they still exist. They still make money from Adsense.
