Hello Guys,

I came across a PR6 site. Now i can get a backlink by joining the site and in the my account page, edit my profile and put my website url in the Homepage textbox. However, the edit profile page has no PR.

So, will that count as a Backlink or not.

Waiting for replies.

Thanking you.

It will count as a backlink if it is ********. But it's worthless if it has no PR. It is much more time efficient to spend 1 hour and get 1 PR5 backlink than it is to get 100 PR0 backlinks in 1 hour.

But yes, the power of your backlink depends on the page it will be on - not the PR of the central domain.

Thanks for your answers. I want to know one more thing. Suppose i sign up to site with PR9. Then i edit my profile and enter my url in the homepage textbox. After that do i have to post or be active at that site or the backlinking work is done.

Please do answer.

Thanking you.

Technically the backlinking work is done, however you should take the extra 5min to fill out your profile more legitimately and add an image/avatar etc. Alot of those places will delete your account if they see someone creating accounts for the wrong reasons.

Better safe than sorry

Thank you for the answer. It cleared my doubts.

Thank you all.

One thing that's worth doing (only takes 5 minutes) is going through the high PR pages on the site. See if usernames appear on any of those pages (like in comments/posts, etc) then see if the username is linked back to your profile, and whether that link is ********.

Often you can build up some PR for your profile-page by leaving comments, ratings, etc in places that pass some PR back to your profile

Why not just go right in and leave links in comments on high PR pages?

What you are asking is the well known Angela Edwards method and yes if it is a do-follow link you have in your 0 Page Rank profile page it does carry alot of weight providing the main site PR is of high authority.

And as someone stated, it is best to add some extra info in your profile so it does not just look like spam. I do these sort of links all the time, it's a service I offer and have noticed that completing profile info helps greatly and have little chance of getting account banned and links deleted.

Because on some, the link (via your username) is nofollowed. Have a look at the "Article Marketing on Steroids" pack (it's in the Downloads section). IIRC on the last video he shows an example with Youtube, where user-comments are no-followed, but user-ratings are do-followed.

Yea, I know there's the argument that no-follows are still useful. But if you're just setting up a few profiles quickly, you'll get more "juice" to them by hunting down ways to get do-follow links from the PR pages

Hope that makes sense?

EDIT - oops, I think I hastily misread your post :)

Often you either can't post your links in comments (they're filtered out) or they are no-followed. But if you've found a site where the link in your user-profile is do-followed, you can flow some PR to that profile in the way I mentioned

Ok, here's my perspective on this whole thing. I started out getting backlinks before I'd ever heard of Angela Edwards. My technique was following the backlink trails of professional spammers. I knew these guys were pro because they ranked very well for their keywords.

These guys all focused on high PR pages (not domains), to maximise the flow of link juice from that site to their own site. One guy I found had nothing below PR4. They'd spent effort finding these high PR pages where they could link drop (********) and I was following in their footsteps, jacking high PR backlinks into my sites and watching them rocket up the SERPS.

Then, I hear about something called Angela's Backlinks. Apparently this person seems to think that having a link on a PR N/A page of a PR7 domain is a great thing. It really isn't. Let me go into detail.

Page rank is a general approximation of how much link juice a page has flowing into it. A PR n/a literally means that the page has link juice of near zero. So, the only value that could come from it would be the authority effect.

Now, I acknowledge this authority effect exists, but I don't feel it's as important as a lot of other people do. Take .edu sites, for example. Google has officially stated that there's nothing magical about them. They just tend to be more powerful because they have been around longer / have good content, so more sites link to them. In other words, authority effect may just be a byword for the domain having a lot of aged inbound links.

My argument boils down to this: if page rank is an accurate measure of link juice, and (after keyword optimisation) link juice determines SERP position, PR n/a pages are comparatively worthless for backlinks.

I spied out Angela Edwards's websites (she has quite a number of them). The backlink profiles are chock full of exactly the sort of pages I've been describing that I and other spammers use - high PR pages. If you want backlinks, look there. Exchanging money for Angela's list of PR n/a pages couldn't be more foolish in my humble opinion.

So, do you think that there's not much difference between links from PR8 social bookmarking websites then PR0 websites? Same with directories, article directories...

I just want to say thanks for lilmasta's contribution to this thread

I am sure if lilmasta actually knows what he is talking about, and can find fault with your well thought out summary..he will post something here..

I think if all of your backlinks and pr4 or above it will look a bit off to Google. I would throw a few PR0-3 into the mix.

These sites will still pass some anchor text and help a little.

Relevancy is also important - if you can get a PR0 from a relevant site with good anchor text, then I think that is still very worthwhile.

Also if a site has a high PR but an inner page doesn't, it is often possible to point a few links at the internal page and do a bit of commenting on some of the high PR pages in order to boost your internal page.

It can take a bit of time but if the site allows commenting or something that has a ******** link back to your profile page it can be easy enough to create a good quality page.
