Can NEW forums be successful in 2017?

How hard is it to make a successful forum in 2017? And when I say 'successful' I'm talking a lot of members signing up and alot of posts/engagement. Is it hard to make a new forum nowadays, would I have to invest alot of money in advertising? Or am I just way off here and new forums are thriving in 2017?

Everything is hard, we are talking about online business so there is no exception.

But if you have proper business and marketing plan, it "should" work, try to do things differently. Fail or succeed, you will earn or learn something from it.

Couldn't really say much past that. Starting any business is 'hard', but if you put the time, effort, and work in, you'll either learn something or make money doing what you're doing. As far as what deems a forum "successful" is really up to you as well. What do you want out of it? Do you want 1 million+ users? Or do you just want like 5,000? Do you want money from it at all? How much? All up to you homie!

Any forum can be very succesfull , it promotting it correctly and getting users intrested in your forum .

go on flippa type in forum in the search, look at the other sites their earnings and sometimes they will write what tactics their even using. I actuallly just went on and saw a site similar to the forum were on being sold haha. That would be a good place to start. In regards to SEO I know google made it harder to rank some forum pages and devalued alot of links from them however if its a user community it wont matter much since the bulk of the success depends on returning userbase

"Successful Forum" is with the hands of #Forum Members (i.e .. how good the members engaged in the forum with useful posts & replies )

As the Result : The Rest of all other Members start Loving the Place, that brings more new member to signing up & when they see informative posts & replies, they also engaged with their useful posts.

I am even more wondered that forums are still alive when we have FB and other social medias. But many forums are strong and have more and more new member. SO, why not. It's hard anyway and anytime. If you know what to do then good luck!

I know forums are still the drug of choice for illicit activities as they require a sort of community reputation system to keep people (somewhat) honest. Also, the moderators themselves often eventually turn corrupt so there is a good turnover rate of people looking for new homes.

ask yourself why and for what purpose you need a forum and compare with knew technics. I would say it depend on wich niche you in, but
socialmedia fanpages, groups are actually the same thing.

wondering the same thing with everyone just on Facebook groups, are people still active in forums? even some sites like digitalpoint has lower member interaction or posts compared from before

It's getting harder, and most smaller forums have migrated to Facebook/IG/Pinterest, as that's where people are.

The only way to take a forum, is large and mainstream IMHO. It's a tonne of work though!

Everything is hard. It is all about dedication. I have signed up to more than 30 forums and I am active only to the ones that I find worthwhile content.

Its hard now-a-days for social media. Also there are now many well established forum around and people now-a-days don't want to sign up and spend many forums for specific subject. Still, nothing is impossible with tricks
