Can never fall asleep anymore.

Listen to a delta isochronic or binaural beat recording with headphones 30 minutes before bed.

What is this elta isochronic or binaural beat recording you speak of? Seems a bit interesting. Is it a type of beat for meditation?

It sounds like you have to put balance in your work life. Having enough sleep is more important than the profit you can generate. To be productive, you need good health.

I take liquid calcium before bed then count backwards from 300 by 3s (300... 297... 294... 291). It usually works, but not tonight. :(

Different tones can be used to place the brain into different states. Delta typically induces deep sleep, while theta is better for relaxation, creativity and meditation. Alpha induces a general feeling of well being, which is the state most commonly found in children. Beta and above provide energy.

When I'm on a I've discovered a million dollar idea night, yeah... It's really hard to sleep, specially if you are on the rush to get it done ASAP to be the first of all the future competition for that particular idea.

On more regular nights, I don't really have that much of a problem to shut my brain down (luckily).

General tips that you can do during the day that worked for me on the past:

Get up early.
Do some kind physical training (weights, hit the road, MA, etc.).
(Try?) Stop working at least one hour before you go to bed.

i usually lift weights I try to do it at least 3-4x a week about 2 hours each time and also fit in Disc Golf everyday.

Or Play some BF3 if friends are on. But not on the PC, I tried that and I found myself alt-tabbin every time I died to do some work. So maybe on PS3 or 360. Just some of the few tips that works for me. It's very difficult for me at least to take my mind off work when I see my computer sitting there and i'm going "Oh shit I should do this really quick" 10 hours later i'm still going. :/

Some great ideas have been shared here and I'm developing a plan. So far I've researched the melatonin suggestion and see that it might be helpful in the beginning, I'm not a fan of sleep aids, however, the dependency effect doesn't seem as apparent.

I'm also going to start getting up earlier, I have a few weights laying around as well so I'm going to start playing with them just to get the blood flowing to keep me up. I've recently switched from coffee to black tea so I'll take some of that in the morning to rev me up.

My basic approach is to get up earlier, work myself both physically and mentally in hopes that I'm actually too tired to stay up late. The melatonin is a backup in case I still lay there keeping myself up with ideas.

Glad we could help you out. There is not a worst sensation that lying in bed and just feeling that there is no way you are going to get any sleep, then you start to think you could do some more IM work... Never ending cycle if you finally get up.

FORCE yourself to workout. It's right up there with making money and eating right as the most important things you can do. Develop a passion for physical fitness and chase it with the same passion you chase after IM. I promise it'll give you results. Just stay with it for a couple of weeks! :)

The best way to fall asleep is to try to stay awake while reading stories.
Search google for "Strange things found in the woods"

Thousands of stories of crazy stuff people have seen in the woods. From dead bodies to aliens.

Puts me to sleep quick.

I've beena fan of the whiteboards for a long time now too, and PostIts. I love PostIts. Sometimes I've got PostIts and whiteboard scribbles slapped all over the damn place in giant mess. I love it for plotting out backlinking strategies, and site structures and whatnot. It's nice to have something physical to stare at and play with, as opposed to just another diagram on the screen.

As far as sleep, get some exercise in your day. Sitting at a computer all day isn't burning any energy, also, computers and electronics have a way of "over stimulating" the mind. Take an hour of cool down time before going to bed. Don't just sit on the computer until you feel like clunking out. Go read a book, tinker on something in yoru garage, have a relaxing soak in a hottub or bath, even lay down and watch a bit of tv. Something to relax the mind a bit instead of taking on the brain overload that is internet.

TL;DR - Burn off excess energy with daily exercise, don't put too much computer time in during the dwindling hours of the day.

The "get a girlfriend" ideas seem good, but unfortunately it doesn't help ;) My gf is tired of hearing me ramble about IM and all my new ideas and site ideas. But she listens anyways and is pretty supportive :) Well, "listens". She doesn't complain in the middle of me talking haha. The workout idea works though, I like to take my dog on night walks from time to time, and by the end of a long walk we're both pretty ready to sleep. Just write down as many ideas as you can. I'll have to think about getting some whiteboards! I use a spiralbound notebook, and it works alright but I go through LOTS of paper ;)

I used to be the same way too and I also use whiteboards for jotting down ideas and
keeping track of what I've done and have to do for certain projects.

The best thing you can do is start working out. Exercise will clear your mind and make you
feel much better physically and mentally. If at all possible, try to do outdoor activities
such as running, biking or hiking. Become acquainted with mother nature.

Smoke a fatty = problem solved. If you dont get strenuous exercise it's going to be hard to fall asleep with all those ideas in your head. I suffered for a long time because of the ideas flowing, then one day i just realized everythings going to be fine and no more over analyzing

IM just takes time and patience. Yes you can work hard, but you can only do so much so fast. Respect the time.

I used to have a similar problem related to video games when I was a gaming addict... It sounds stupid, but I would NOT be able to sleep as I was thinking of strategy and all that crap. After 2 hours tossing and turning, would end up playing the game till 5am till I was completely exhausted and had to shut down.

Then during the day I would be SO tired, but as soon as I started gaming the tiredness went away and would easily be able to stay up again.

I found the best method to cure this is to NOT do anything gaming related for about an hour-hour and half before bed. Read a book, watch TV, anything you are interested in that doesnt involve IM... That would help you fall asleep back on a regular schedule.

You will notice after 2-3 days of doing this you dont think of IM so much and will be able to get back on regular sleeping pattern, and once you do try to stick with it.

Good luck and stay thirsty my friend.
