The official Reddit API works well for basic things like posting, reading comments, or building legit apps, but it’s pretty limited for large scale automation.
Most people doing heavy automation avoid it because of strict rate limits, activity tracking, and the fact that Reddit can easily detect patterns when everything runs through the official API.

u can but it has heavy limits now. кate limits and rules stop most automation

еhat is why many tools avoid the api

Yes, Reddit allows automation through its API. You just need to create a developer app and authenticate with OAuth. Many bots use libraries like PRAW to automate tasks like monitoring posts or replying. Just make sure you respect Reddit’s rate limits and avoid spammy behavior, or your app/account can get banned.

Reddit stopped their open api access. Now you have to have a use case for it, apply and wait possible months to years for a reply back.

You're a bit late to the Reddit API party, unfortunately.

I see discussions here about Reddit automation, why not just use the official API?
Yes, you can use Reddit's API for automation purposes, but you must adhere to some important platform regulations. Reddit allows developers to build bots, analytics tools, and automated posting tools, but they maintain strict controls to prevent spam.

API Restrictions & Rate Limits. The official API (from Reddit) has strict limits:

Rate limits: You can only make a certain number of requests per minute.Automation rules: Aggressive posting, voting, or messaging can trigger anti-spam systems.Moderation restrictions: Some actions require mod permissions or specific scopes.

you can use the official api for automation such as posting, commenting, upvoting, or even moderation, sending DMs....etc.
you can pretty much use it for anything. the issue is that the rate limit of posting, commenting ...etc is stricter than scraping
