Can I use Facebook emails in Custom Audiences?

Hi guys!

I would like to try Facebook Custom Audiences. In order to create one, I was wondering if Facebook emails can be used for that purpose, i.e. something like [email protected].

I thought about this solution because I do not have email lists and from what I understood, Facebook ids can be used only if they were gathered through a Facebook application (there is a field to provide its id during creation process).

Could you please clarify the use of Facebook emails for that use case?

Well, I have read the tutorial made by Shashablack where he says that emails can be used instead of the user ids for which an app id is required. But is it as simple as that?

I mean I can get thousands of emails, write a script to check if they are active (not all users have activated that option), keep the valid ones and load them in a Custom Audience.

Maybe I should just try in order to see what happens. But I have doubts it is so simple. The truth is I do not want to have my account blocked for using those emails. Is there such risk if I use them for an ad meant to get likes on my page (not selling anything)?

i've not tried that too. but if i did i would just add in some fake emails and some non @fb to try and confuse them.
