I am considering creating a local business directory (sort of) and was thinking if it's possible to rank well on Google for their related keywords. Here is an example.

Say I have a generic domain xxxxx.com and I want to rank the keywords "golf coach in singapore" and another keyword "fengshui master KL". Can I still rank well for both search terms?

Note that I understand all the fundamentals of SEO and I do do quality backlinks to both pages, will I be able to rank well or do I need to purchase EMD for each search term?

I have a music blog and here's some of my top keywords:

And as an experiment I'm also attempting to go broad here.

So I believe the answer is yes. With the proper content and SEO effort, you should be fine.

LE: Actually, you can go for ANY keyword you like as long as your website is called NEWS BLOG

I always favor building broader authority sites. Maybe you can try using sub-domains as a way to narrow your focus for each topic.

Depending on the mix of content, you could definitely rank well for a variety of terms on a broad topic blog.

Thanks for the advice. Would love to see some examples of sites ranking well for a widely diverse keywords.

Yes you can fated82. I am currently doing it myself right now as we speak. You just have to work harder than other websites do a good amount of mixed back linking for the content and do some link pushing.
