I plan on outsourcing logo design and I have only one fear - getting sued. If I unintentionally sell clients logos with clipart in it, do you think the risk is high that I may get sued later down the road? Naturally, I'm going to have to claim that my designs are "original" to my clients in order to generate sales, which is why i'm worried of getting sued due to clipart.

Make sure you email the designer a letter asking for original logo design. Make sure you make it clear that you want 100% original design. When they reply, keep the email in a folder. If later it comes up you have proof you bought the logo in good faith, it's down to the designer then

It would make you a liar long before you get sued.

If I find the contact info of a designer on 99designs and work with that designer directly, wouldnt i have the flexibility to seem like im legit?

What? Why do you " want to seem legit "?

So that I can claim "in-house" designers and get more sales.
Unlikely to get any sales if I openly state I am outsourcing to a random designer i found on 99designs lol.

Now days you can get sued for just about anything.

If you are selling designs and then you out source the work. Basically you are hiring an independent contractor. I would get some time of agreement in place that they are designing for you and that you own the designs 100% and that they would not market it or claim as there own.

I am no lawyer so I would recommend contacting one and getting a contract done up that you can use.

Do you think it's worth the risk? No doubt I can earn good money. Though, it would be pointless if I get hit with lawsuits and lose everything eventually. Perhaps im being paranoid...

If I understand right, you can use any clip art from here to to unlimited commercial use how ever you want.
Not 10000% sure but look for yourself for the "License" at the bottom of the page.

Thanks alot! Eases my nervousness, so maybe i shouldnt worry if clipart is used in the logos i sell...

Tell the designers you want something very similar to xxxxx then send them a link to the clipart.

If you're going to be selling $5 logos then it's not too much of an issue, if someone is going to pay you $50 or $100 they're going to might pissed if it's shoddy clipart crap you send them.
You also know someone will recognize this and then word gets out and you're business gets a bad rep.

I knew someone who was setting up as a dog groomer and the person doing her artwork used free share cartoon drawings, it came to light when someone else had the same cartoon logo for their dog walking business, just with a line of text put underneath.
