You may use gimp to add your EXIF data.
But I do not see any help in SEO, only Geo data will help in local seo.
You can add EXIF, other people also can remove them, so it does not help in protection.

As a matter of fact, some of the image optimization plugins will strip EXIF data by default. I do not believe that any search engine will read the EXIF data of an image (beyond the file name) and use it for SEO purposes (at least so far as I have seen).
