Can content alone help in getting a page rank.

Hello,

I saw an interesting sales thread where a seller is selling his domain that has a page rank of 4.

therightsofchildren.org

It has 0 backlinks but has some reasonable content.
I got a doubt, can content help in building page rank without the help of backlinks?

Is it worth buying this domain?

it is possible if the content is good and it has a decent number of pages. i have a site that achieved PR3 (now dropped to PR2), with ZERO links because it has over 100 pages of unique content. make sure you check the domain on a number of PR tools too. I quickly checked on one tool and it seemed good.
 
Sellers on sites like Flippa, etc have been known to pump up a fake PR and then sell before the PR drops. Not saying everyone does it, but I am curious as well to learn about other methods for identifying whether or not the PR is legit so that we can avoid such scams.
 
I was about to say that sounds like a fake PR, (done by redirecting the site to a high pr site)

Content alone wont give you a high PR, however if you have good content the idea is people will link to you. bringing in the link juice for nothing!
 
if i managed to get PR3 with ZERO links then i would say PR4 without links does not seem too far fetched either.

Not necessarily.

I had a 3 month old site go to PR4 with less than 200 backlinks at the time. I had around 1700 pages indexed though.
 
Well I have checked it, It seems that it is NOT fake PR and it holds a PR 4.
However with regards to buying it, it depends what you want it for and how much they are looking for. Godaddy auctions often have pr3-4 domains which you can pick up for next to nothing.
 
Wow thats pretty amazing PR4 and no backlinks? Maybe theres backlinks you cant see I write a lot of unique tips/articles for one of my blogs and never had more then a PR1 and even my blog mostly has some BLs from social networks.

In my opinion though Id never buy a site based only on PR, I once sold a directory of PR3 back in the day and the person who bought it didnt take care of it or Google devalued it and next update it was PR0 so I was lucky to sell it. Although you said it had tons of content so that right there may be worth it.
 
Don't buy domains without backlinks. PR is a calculation based on the number of links to your site. The seller is most likely using high PR site and 301ing it to the target domain to pump up it's PR.

I wouldn't buy it.
 
If you observe the Google latest updates and algorithm then you come to know that Google start focusing more and more on content rather than links so if your site content is good and informative then you will benefited with good page rank.
 
Probably fake. How can there be no backlinks at all? What's the age of the domain?
 
Check backlinks using several tools, if it have any good high PR backlinks, then it will be good. If you cant see any backlink, then probably it will be a faked one

You can always use the fake rank checker in scrapebox to check for real pagerank.

I actually just checked this in Scrapebox and it says it is real pagerank.:)

Domain Created on 26th Feb ? The Page Rank is fake. Their is no way you can get Page Rank 4 in 1 month of registration.

Their has been some new technique floating around to fake PR. Most of the tools aren't able to detect. So it's really important to check the domain age before making a purchase.

Yes, I agree...

recently I brought a PR3 domain and in few days it became PR0. There is no update even.... and I did nothing with the domain
 
Looking at a site belonging to a small local business it has hardly any content, and hardly any backlinks so I was suprised to see it was PR2.

In that case I think the age of the domain is a factor.
