Can Backlinks work to rank Google maps?

I have added my client's regional company to the desired location, I want to rank the map location.... Is it possible to rank the location of the google map in the search engine results?

How do I do it? Is it the same procedure like we use to rank websites or there is something else? Suggestions and advice requested please.
