    Basically,

I've started to do yoga, i do about half an hour every other day from what i know, but i know very little. I absolutely adore it and want to start doing it more, however don't really know where to start.

So, does anyone know any good DVD's i can buy, or any good resources i can use?

I'm only starting out so i don't want all this crazy stuff, just some more basics and i'll be good i think!

    Thanks for any help!

I'm a yoga instructor and frankly I don't recommend people learning yoga from videos. Because most people think they get the pose down, but in reality all the alignments of their asanas are incorrect. You also don't know the right way of breathing, which is KEY to the poses as well as different focus point. So in the long run you're not getting any real benefits and might really hurt yourself.

However, if you're really determined to learn the basics at home. The easiest way is to go on youtube. There are a few good yoga gurus with tons of videos. I also recommend you to borrow a few yoga books from the library, which better explain everything.

Yoga is not just about stretching and poses, it is so much more that's why people travel all around the world to study under a master. Have fun!

I'm only doing it to get flexible, not for any spiritual/mental benefits, although i'm slowly being convinced about those, so i might just take a class.

Thanks for the heads up though, i knew it was a deep subject, but never realised how much so. I'll tread lightly from now on :)

    Thanks for the advice!

    Nice pix lol

Some additional things about the subject... forget to aim for any spiritual benefit while you're starting out, it will come naturally when you're really into it. But you should naturally feel happier and calmer after a proper yoga session. Many students of mine compare the exhalirating feeling similar to a nice massage or after sex. I'm not kidding.

As you progress and become more flexible, you will find many poses require less energy and you can hold them for much longer with ease.

You also will become incredibly strong when you reach intermediate to advanced level. As there are many moves similar to breakdancing lol. Handstand, headstand, one armed backbend etc. So yoga is not for the sissys and gays! Just want to clarify! =)

Here are some other links that you might find helpful:

    t5t.com
    energyarts.com
    universal-tao.com

When talking about spiritual side of these methods, I'm personally interested in more advanced and deeper esoteric subjects, but I still find some valuable elements from these systems.
