Can anyone please explain why social bookmarking isn't considered effective?

I have found a lot of claims regarding social bookmarking being of no use in the modern-day SEO, anyone please suggest why is it so? And shall I stop making efforts for the same as I am doing it for my website?

Still it’s effetive for me, there have some social dump social sites, ignore them
 
Social buzz is effective, if it is real or looks real. Avoid mass spamming for social bookmarking.
Posts that are widely shared on social media appear to have better results, but that might be because of other factors, like direct traffic, time spent on the website, etc.

Google is taking everything into account, but the spammy pushing on pinterest is no longer effective as it used to be.

yeah I am very cautious about using tags and descriptions just to avoid any kind of spam
Could you suggest some good websites for it as I read it on other threads that websites such as folkd are pretty much useless

Go where the real people are. Facebook, Twitter and Reddit are safe bets.
 
There are a lot of opinions around the net. Go your own way and keep doing the things. Also try to find new ways instead of exuding old ones.
 
Still Effective. Do some research and don't listen to others. It will help you in the long run.
 
It is effective when you need to build backlinks more than your competitors. But if your competitors is quality backlinks from editorial sites, and other real performing sites, the social bookmarking willn't be useful.

You should analyze your competitors backlinks. Then you can decide it.

Social bookmarking also useful when it be a tier 2 links.

You might not pay it now, you might not pay it for a few months, but you’ll pay it sooner or later.

It seems this reputation has been tarnished by the excessive spam these websites get on a frequent basis
