Can anyone answer this duplicate content question?

If i use the same content for multiple pages but only slightly change it to suit each city in America....would it rank or would it get slapped by the big G ?

What is length of character in each page?
Currently what is your traffic status?
 
each page is about 500 words. each page is just the same article but with minor changes such as city name. Example -

page 1 = dentist in Chicago.
page 2 = dentist in Miami
page 3 = dentist in Calafornia.

Its a new site and is getting some traffic. Just wondering if this i classed as duplicate content in the eyes of google? All ontent belongs to the same site....

That's what I did and I got slapped. I don't recommend it.
 
No that is content duplication and it's just a slight change in the content so don't do that.
 
If you are willing to fire some backlinks at those pages they might stick. Best bet is to pull in some unique content for each pages from somewhere. Google maps, social comments about the geo etc.
 
You will be having a good chance of getting into a Duplicate content try to change at least 70% of the content and internal links will be very help full try doing this.
 
Write good content unique content which helps to grow your business keyword ranking in the google, otherwise big G slap your business.
 
The truth is, you are likely do get hit with a penalty by doing this.

But it is very common. And a lot of sites do NOT get hit.

I am willing to bet you would eventually get a penalty.

I would suggest hiring an article rewriter (way cheaper than new content) to rewrite the articles and find synonyms and other variations to what you wrote.

If you're a site the size of Yelp, or Yellow Pages etc you're more likely to get away with doing this.... otherwise do rewrites and play safe.

Absolutely.

But brands play by different rules.

Another positive of using paradites for seo.
 
If Google knows about the content was duplicate, then your page will be flagged and may be penalized by the big G.
 
I normally get the content rewritten - it’s safer and it’s more likely to rank.
 
if you dont re write content the dup pages will get penilised .

dup content is not allowed fullstop .

so the ansaw is , you will get penilised .
