can anybody explain this?

i think i must have really pissed somebody off 3+ years ago.

for 3 years, i have been getting calls from area code 706. i block almost each and every one of them, but new numbers keep coming in! sometimes i pick up the phone, nobody utters a sound, and after 15 seconds, it just hangs up.

if there is some kind of service like that out there, does it not cost money? what kind of service is that?
for 3+ years, average 1 a day alone, it's 1000 calls. why and how?

Do you also get calls from scams where there are voice recordings telling you things like:

You committed a crime and are going to be arrested.
You won a prize (vacation or flight).

Or just these calls with nothing?

no, they dont say a word at all.

I used to receive calls like that, but not daily, and they don't hangout, you keep hearing nothing, untill uou hang up, it may goes to 10 & even 20mins. Similarly with unknown numbers.

"your extended car warranty will expire" is my version. not daily, no calls for several days, and then multiple calls in one day.

i get calls like that too
probably someone didn't properly configure their robo caller
in modern android settings u can disable calls from people not inside your contacts
or use a free android app like truecaller. they have a spam database. can toggle numbers tagged as spam to be auto-denied.
