Can an AI flagged site recover?

I have an AI content site that was rising consistently with impressions and traffic, and suddenly went to zero impressions across the board. The site probably got flagged as AI, and most likely b/c I did not have authorship (for testing purposes).

Can a site like this be saved by improving the content and implementing authorship? Or is it doomed and should I move on to a new URL?

some penalties can be lifted by fixing the problem, so yes, it can.

Your site looks like it's new (less than 1 month old) and it's had its initial dance with google and now it's gone into the sandbox or something. And if it did get into the sandbox, it won't get out no matter what you do until the sandbox expires (could be anywhere from 3 months to 2 years or more, depending on the niche).

If it's not sandboxed, however... it might have been completely de-indexed, but the reason for de-indexation can't be the AI content, something else may have triggered it (maybe someone reporting you for building links, or for copyright / trademarked infringement, etc...)

If it's still indexed and it's not sandboxed... well, I can't figure out what's wrong then, so you should probably wait for someone else's opinion.

Is there some way to check if you are sandboxed and how long it will take to expire for the specific site?

however, after it bottomed out to zero impressions - i implemented very basic authorship and created a very high quality local page and started seeing some life (a few impressions but very few)

Was it built on an expired domain? If not, and no links have been built, that can certainly be a starting point for regaining some traction.

If your site is just part of a larger portfolio, and you don't have much investment in it, I've found that in similar situations the method of recovery is simply... waiting. If you have it automated you can still post content, but probably do it at a slower rate than current. With my own autogenned sites that receive a sudden drop to near zero, simply waiting for a few months has usually seen some sort of recovery in 6+ months.

In my opinion speculating that your website got flagged because of AI wouldn't be right.

It probably got flagged due to the content structure, relevance, or your websites authority compared to your competitor's.

Reverse engineer your competitor's specifically those that replaced your pages.

I have many AI generated sites in different niches and none of them have ever been flagged that way.

Proper research & planning with keywords & content structure is very important.

will update this thread in 2 weeks to those who are curious. i am implementing further authorship, local pages, and quotes from author.

I don't do AI websites but I'm assuming people do that considering it a short term/burn and churn project. If you get hammered, you move on?! You'll have to re-do a lot of things and create content from scratch again and it's still not guaranteed if google will lift whatever penalties they levied on your site.

Well when I say AI website, I still made sure it was high quality with original images, charts, etc.

What site:domainname.com in Google did your domain have before the drops and what does it have now?
