Can Amazon see your mac address?

I've read aspkins amazon ghost where it says amazon can read your mac address. my sister just lost her acct and is making a new one and others are telling her no they can't.
does anyone know for sure whether they can or can't

dude, are you kidding?
I can't answer your 2nd question, but i can answer your first one with 100000% confidence, that YES, they can see your MAC address, and much more infos like IP, cache, browser infos/version etc..

so say you got a dial up connection just for amazon . that would work right? because there's no mac address with dial up. I mean it would be easier to make multiple accts with dial up

Dial up is a pretty bad footprint, though. So few people use it nowadays that it sticks out like a sore thumb.

Just spoof your MAC.

yeah, there are programs that help u fake your mac address, but im pretty sure they are step ahead of the game. You have to be very careful.

wtf - how's that even possible? It's my understanding that amazon could only get your mac address if they have something installed locally on your computer.

you can pretty much pinpoint someones exact physical address once you have the mac address.. that kind of information being leaked through having an account at amazon would be very surprising to me. I'd like to know how they do it if it's even possible lol. any ideas?

I have in the past considered that MAC info could be routed from a computer, but people with much more experience than me uniformly say at the current level of technology that is not doable:

It is not possible (at least for amazon) to know the MAC address man. They can only know IP and other info that browser show.

Dude... You kidding right? Because if someone gets your MAC address so easily, then that will be major flaw! If someone has access to your MAC then he can do just anything.

Just tell your sister to create a new account on her computer and use a different IP address using her phone data for example and that should be enough.

but they can see your web fingerprint right? so if she wipes it and reinstalls windows 7 changes IP should be good to go right? I'll have her spoof mac address anyway I dont trust those bastards

I'm pretty sure she accessed her amazon account with her phone...thought about tethering it but if she used that device to access her account I'm pretty sure it would be linked.

Well if they knew your MAC address, then proxies won't be of any use...

The modem from where you exit to the internet may have UPnP or something like that activated? Either way I doubt Amazon exploited your sister's modem just to find out who you are.

VPS is an entirely different PC, it has it's own MAC address separate from the user accessing it remotely..

ya but Aspkin says they can only see mac address of pc and router not the modem I'd like to believe they cant see mac address but not sure

mac adress it's only visible on LAN and not visible on WAN

They can see your IP, your user agent, and your cookies, but not your MAC Adress (unless you run a java applet which require a authorization)

They might trace your MAC address if they have a java applet / flash running in the site. I doubt it though. You can change your MAC address anyway. Try googling "TMAC mac address changer".
