Can Alexa/Quantcast Be Gamed?

I have a client who is a scumbag but his checks don't bounce so I'm still dealing with him. His latest thought is to game Alexa and Quantcast on one of his sites. He wants to set up a few PCs on Tor to keep hitting his site to see if the counts will show as "real and organic" on those two traffic meters. I'm not sure that will work as I'd think that Alexa and Quantcast would have a list of Tor proxies and devalue them. Am I right, is he right, or is there another way to drastically inflate just the traffic numbers for a site? (Note, he's only interested in traffic, he's not trying to get clicks, etc.)

My guess would be to buy fake traffic and use fake referring method probably a script.
 
Yeah, but he wants massive traffic and he wants to do it himself. Would the Tor ploy work or would it be discovered by the meter sites?
 
You can buy cheap bot traffic to manipulate Alexa (well at least the last time I checked). Not sure what you mean by looking "organic", as other than organic results not sure how you would do that.
 
What I mean by organic is that IF (and it's a big IF) Alexa has a list of all the Tor proxies and they see that 99.9% of the traffic to a site is coming from those, it's not going to be too difficult for them to realize that it's a scam. The client wants to make it look like it's real traffic but I don't know of any way to do that. Does the "cheap bot traffic" have a history of fooling Alexa, et al.? If so, then it might be worth it.
 
Really need some sort of help here as I have to tell this guy something concrete soon, so if anyone can chime in I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!
 
To improve your Alexa traffic, just fake and cheap traffic wont do. Alexa gets data from their toolbar. So your traffic should be having Alexa toolbars installed. And by the way who uses Alexa rank, other than if you want to flip the site or get into some affiliate sites. Otherwise, its no use improving your alexa rank

Thanks for the info, but the client wants Alexa/Quantcast ranking to show that his website is pulling in serious traffic NOT for SEO purposes but to promote his non-web project to some heavy-hitters with cubic bucks. So how do I go about getting him Alexa's and Quantcast'd traffic? I gotta figger this out pronto.

What alexa ranking does he want to reach?

I have seen alot of ads that will say they can lower alexa rank of a price. I dont know if they work...I think one was for 10,000 rank for about $700 a month..Check on google "lower alexa rank"
 
Not-So-Obvious-Recommendation: Don't use Tor.

All of the IP's have hostnames with Tor/anon/etc in them, and I'm more then certain that sites like Alexa/Quantcast have setup preventative measures against said hostnames.
 
Thanks for the tips as it's led me to find a couple of possibilities. I'm checking out everything and hope that I can find one that works. I'll report back with my findings.

have used some alexa services over there, from a seller "Alexa_Ranking", he was really good
