Was thinking if ads or an ad network can also bring down a website's google rank?

When I was a younger budding webmaster still finding my way in cyberspace many years ago, my web pages were all ranking low. I wanted to bring in some revenue, so I signed up for Google Adsense. Shortly thereafter, I noticed that my pages showed up slightly higher on search. It occurred to me that Google wants to make money from the ads on my site, so it is in their best interest to bump up pages that have their advertisers on them.

If it affects site speed or let your viewers leave your site then it can affect site rank.

Ordinarily, no.
But if the ads heavily impacts on the user experience of your site. Then it could impact your ranking.

Avoid overloading your site with intrusive or excessive advertisements, as they can seriously impact the user experience. This can result in higher bounce rates and shorter dwell times. Instead, prioritize relevant, non-intrusive, and minimal ads for a more seamless and enjoyable browsing experience

Depends on the ad network. Adsense loads minimal external scripts to load ads while Ezoic loads up to 5 or more third party analytics scripts. And obviously, the later hinders the websites performance.

if those ads are really intrusive yes, if they are well placed and not bothering with the content or page navigation sure go for it, but if any add have sound and is popping in the middle of the screan at least for me is an immeidate no and left the site the lest invasive the ads the more likely is to be accepted.

The answer is no, Ads do not directly impact your website's search engine rankings.

If the ads slow down your website then yes they can impact your website's ranking.
