Can a domainer or expired domain expert explain a process for me

1. The owner of the site let it expired because the business closed.

2. The site is now listed 2500$ on Godaddy.

3. My question *** how long will this domain sit at this price until it goes to backorder and released?

Note:

I know this is the process because this guy locally in my city owned 3 popular businesses and I was able to grab the best one already. I dont think the owner is trying to sell the domain for this price and its just godaddys process. I do not think anyone will buy it want to to catch it as it goes to backorder again.

If Godaddy like the domain name, then it could be forever, as it will be sold as "premium" name.

However, it will never really get dropped, as even if they decided to stop selling it as premium, they would list it at their auctions.

And then if nobody bids on that domain, then only then it will get dropped.

So all in all, it's 2500 now or who knows how much, who knows when.

GoDaddy often lists expired domains at a fixed price through their auction system before they fully drop. If no one buys it, it usually goes through an expiry auction period (around 30 45 days after expiration), then enters redemption, and finally gets released for backorder or public registration. Keep checking with GoDaddy Auctions or use a backorder service like DropCatch to monitor when it becomes available.

Usually, domains can stay listed at that price for months or even years if no one buys them. GoDaddy keeps them on auction, and if unsold, they eventually return for backorder or public release.

Usually, after a domain expires, it goes through a few stages: expired, redemption, and pending delete. On GoDaddy, this can take roughly 30 40 days before it becomes available for backorder, though exact timing can vary. If the current owner doesn’t renew, you can place a backorder so you have a chance to grab it the moment it’s released. Keep an eye on it GoDaddy’s pricing listing doesn’t block the backorder process.
