Please somehow make some rules to get them to stop making stupid statements on posts!

Like for the first 30 days "you cannot make an asshole out of your self, or you will be limited to posting"

Maybe they should only be allowed to PM for a certain amount of time. I know some of them really aren't that bad, but since DP changed their rules, they are migrating over here like lemmings.

Leaving aside all the pros and cons, seriously guys, I remember my initial days when I was simply in awe with the high quality maintained on BHW. It's getting too difficult to sieve good and bad threads now, and some of the threads simply leave me disgusted. Some people simply don't read the entire thread and go on asking same questions that are / were just answered only some posts before. Even if we are able to stop these sort of posts, we'll get back to some normalcy (read: sanity).

Top Hats need to reconsider some of the options IMHO.

Could just make a section of the forum for noobs to post all their begging for help threads and to make assholes out of themselves.

Then we can just never ever go in there. Pedobear can moderate.

I think everyone should just give it a rest. There's loads of posts about newb this and newb that, and it's likely too hard to moderate and adding further hurdles for all the newbs only makes it harder. The trouble is you add too many restrictions and you make it so restrictive, that posting in and of itself becomes hard and then the forum no longer is a forum but a tough dictatorship.

I get very annoyed with some of the shit which gets posted, but this forum is now very, very large and it comes with the territory. I have simply learned to ignore it and i think everyone else should rather than bitch about stuff, which is nearly impossible to change and is, in my opinion, acceptable within a forum format.

Remember that the rules to this forum are already much tighter than a lot of comparable forums and many will happily waltz in here completely unaware or how mcuh they need to tread carefully.

Regardless, it's all a bit meh.

    What happened to invite only?

There was a brief period here on BHW when every member was given 100 invitations for friends that they thought would contribute. Now it seems with the referral program it's going in the opposite direction and everyone is competing to get their post counts and reps up by recruiting whatever schmucks they can..

It's obvious that BHW is growing and we all know it, it's a good thing if you ask me, it builds a stronger community, obviously a load of newbies are going to be coming here and honestly? I've got no problem with that, it's just when I get PMs like:
It annoys the hell out of me, having to reply to so many private messages with the same thing about using the search feature and reading BHW, although some days I'll get a couple of nice private messages from newbies, which put some time into writing the message and explain exactly what they don't understand, or what they need help with.

I agree, but did you saw what happened to DP, especially their BST section? First, they allowed the sh*t to hit the fan, and when it went out of hand, they had to take the obvious action. With the new rules about "free bans available", there was an abrupt end to stupid posts. DP isn't going to die if half of those posters are banned and, in fact, they can return to some of the glory they enjoyed some time back. Do we need something like that? Not saying that DP has anything better to offer, but even the best can learn from such cases.

I think many people who read OP's suggestion automatically confused 'stupid statements' with newbie-type questions. I would definitely not put the two into the same category and I'm sure neither would OP.

Let me explain - I fully agree with OP on the fact that reading some of the posts over here is pure irritating. At the same time, I have nothing against newbies asking legit questions, even if the search box could've been used to find the answer. Stupid statements and questions asked due to a certain inexperience are two different things.

As for those saying "you were once a noob too" - I say that there's a difference between a noob and an unintelligent person. Yup, all of us were once newbies and probably asked questions that others laughed about, but most of us (or, well, maybe not most but I'd like to think that it's at least half) have never posted things that are simply pointless.

To summarize, I think there's a huge difference between newbies and unintelligent people. Whereas the first (and their posts) are very welcome and they will likely improve and at one point become valuable assets of the community, the second category is likely to never improve and this is the one that we should try and keep away from the community.

I can already imagine threads entitled "72 BHW accounts for sale at $1.25 each" over on DP. :p

    Hi Guys,

I would like to give my POV as a newbie myself. First of all, while I am a newbie to IM, I'm not so much of a newbie when it comes to web development. I have been a web developer / designer for around 5 years now. At the same time, I've been into IM for a couple of months now.

About newbies on BHW: I found this forum through G and I can't say how happy I am that I did. The amount of valuable information is huge!

At the same time (this is the important part of my post) I sometimes find myself frustrated as every great information-filled thread is usually clogged with posts like "how do you install this?" / "how do I use this?" / "does this work?". This makes it very hard to scan a thread and extract your perls of wisdom.

I'm not sure what would be the best way to go about this, but maybe a simple questionaire that one must fill out for registration could work, this is how I imagine it:

    1) Signup Questionnaire: The user has to fill out a multiple choice questionnaire to test his level of expertise.

    2) If the user experience level is below average, then they receive a "noob" membership that only allows to user one forum (ie "The newbies Forum"). If the user proves to have some knowledge (enough to not be a whiner) then he get's access to the regular forums.

It's like every forum, you'll have to go through the shit to find the golden nuggets. Esp when the forum gets big.

I still remember when i came over here from a banner trade with ssec, oh how the forum grew way beyond what i thought it would.

The problem is that most of these 'noobs' aren't cut out for IM or don't want it bad enough. They are attracted to large amounts of easy money. They think that it will just happen if they become members and ask questions to the veterans about how they did it. You have to want it and be willing to work for it. It's like the guys that go to the gym and walk around thinking they are going to get huge just because they are there...

You can tell the ones that don't because of their posts as mentioned above "how do I make money?" "what is CPA?" "what is a PVA?" "what is a CL?" You have to have some knowledge before you just jump into this. You don't see me flying to Hollywood to become an actor, because I know I am not cut out for it and don't have what it takes..

I R KNEWB! (P.S. Don't send a bunch of trash to my PM like OP is suggesting..)

I think they shouldn't be allowed to post without searching first.. altho sometimes it is hard to search. For those of you who art clueless Google: site:BlackHatWorld "topic1" "topic2" "a few keywords" hit GO!

How about we all just start talking in very technical terms about media buys and pay-per-click, and see who leaves forever?

Precisely! And those are exactly this group that I mentioned in my above post and don't think we should tolerate.

I'm all for helping out newbies (people who actually WANT to do something to become successful) and can see them turning into members who will soon enough provide great value by themselves but I'm definitely not into helping the people you've described who simply look for overnight riches without wanting to do anything - it's very unlikely that more than 1% of those people will ever a) make any money; b) give back any value to the community.
