Hi there,

Looking to build a desktop under 1000$ for myself mostly for work as well as gaming.

I just prebuilt one on pcpartpicker.

I always build my own computers and a decade ago it was even my job for a while, I will take a look.

Alrighty, looks like a great system, the graphic card looks more like mid end, I don't think it will play the newest games on ultra settings smoothly.

But besides that, good system, if you want it cheaper go with a AMD build system but I would go with the current one, maybe save a bit more for a better graphic card.

I think what was meant was the budget doesn't leave much room for improvement on that sorted. You could m maybe scrape a bit from the car and ditch some fans and get faster ram or try and save enough for a faster gpu but it's a pretty good system that should do everything you need.

If you are looking for a work horse you could probably save on the gpuand plump for a faster cpu but as an all rounder it is a decent spec

Ya i was thinking of putting a high end graphics card but for small gaming sessions i would'nt spend those extra bucks i guess.
I am actually not a big fan of AMD processors.

Ya i think i just added all the basic stuff needed for a decent desktop.

The new Ryzen AMD processors are actually pretty amazing for all but gaming and aren't exactly bad for gaming either. If I were to setup a new system today it would definitely be a Ryzen system but there are some slight complications with their spotty ram support and some other teething issues which would prevent me from advising them outright.

The thing with the i5 CPU is that you know what you are getting and it should be reliable and plenty fast enough for all but the most serious video / 3d renderer. I have been running with a i7 2600k which is probably a good bit slower than that i5 today and I don't struggle with anything CPU related

How is the temparature where you live? Is it hot? Do you really need all those fans? If you are living in cool place then standard CPU cooling fan and two case fans are enough.

Do you really need 16GB RAM? Most of time, 8GB RAM is more than enough.

Use that money to buy better video card.

PS: I don't like AMD and will never recommend it based upon my own experience. This is for motherboard.

I would go for RX 480 instead of GTX 1060. I had to do this choice too and after hours of research RX 480 was at a better price with the same performances (even better in some games).

On a purely gaming rig 8 is ok but 16 is still going to be better going forward and for a work rig where you are running more than just a browser I would not even consider less than 16.

I recently gifted 16 of my 32 to my nephew as I thought an upgrade to my whole system would be imminent but I often struggle with 16 as I do work on my machine. I cannot wait to get back on 32.

The 580 is out now and a small amount quicker than the 480 for the price the 480 was last year. Ultimately there is little noticeable difference between the three cards and it all comes down to what you are going to be playing. It is possible that the 480 / 580 will age better but it is likely that the 1060 will play todays and yesterdays games better overall. It is a bit of a toss-up however.

It depends upon his use. I have 8GB RAM but most of time my system actually use less than half. I run out of use only when I use memory inefficient browser and easy solution to this is to use memory efficient browser. Now I never run out of memory. I even don't use any vitual memory. It is set to off.

If you are working with videos and graphics etc then yes you need lot more memory 32 GB minimum. Else most of time 8 GB is enough. You just need to configure your computer and use memory efficient browser.
