Calling all knowledgeable computer guys!

I am looking to purchase a computer to FINALLY put to rest (RIP) my old cobwebbed LGA775 socket desktop. But I need a little bit of guidance.

From my research, it seems the LGA 2011 socket is better than the LGA 1150. Yet, with the release of Z87 chipset, the divide between them in my eyes has gotten much shorter. The motherboard I am looking to get is:

This Thunderbolt stuff they talk about seems really great, and seeing as though that motherboard does dual TB, that means it's using the newest TB tech.

Two questions:

1. With the release of this new Intel chipset, if I am on a budget (which I am), should I choose the LGA 2011 or the LGA 1150 socket motherboard?

2. Does anyone have any experience using the Thunderbolt interface, maybe watching movies, playing games, or whatever?

Another thing that confuses me is the CPU most people are talking about as being the best for this setup is the i7 4770k, yet it only supports dual memory. That seems kind of basic to me, seeing as though there are quad channel, and possibly higher.

Thoughts?

2011 stuff is high end, the most expensive processors and really, if you are on a budget best to ignore, stick to mainstream, the just released 1150 or even the just replaced 1155 if you are planning on keeping it a while (bargains to be had).

A lot depends on what you plan on doing with the pc beyond work, but high end gamers and encoding videos aside, a mid range core I3 will do for just about any sort of activity you will want a PC to do, at speeds as close to the I5 and higher stuff so as not to be an issue, and use much less power than even an 1150 I7 , let alone a 2011 based PC.

For the majority of applications you wouldnt tell the difference between quad and dual channel memory at all, so again it really comes back to what stuff you intend to do.

For me, an I3 ( 1155 socket) with 16GB of Ram and a solid state hard drive is fast enough for practically every single application one might use, and especially if you are used to a 775 based system (I still use one as a file server) will seem impossibly fast in comparison, and can be made dirt cheap, if you arent playing games, you dont even need a graphics card, the on board will run a full HD screen

If you are using youtube to earn money or other things that require video encoding, a mid range 1150 socket I5 with solid state hard drive and as much ram as you can budget for will do the job with about 75% of the speed of a 2011 system but cost less than half the money.

Can't really say much about thunderbird, I think the lack of peripherals out there at reasonable prices means its not really something to worry about.

Yeah, that is what I was thinking (Asus). At the moment, I have a Gigabyte MB, and I thought about sticking with this company, but Asus seems to be the one people talk about most, so, I want to give it a try.

And yes I agree with what Nogginthenog said, that 2011 socket stuff is too pricey at the moment, for someone that is not looking to top end his computer. The main reason why I want to upgrade is so I can run various bots without my computer slowing down. At the moment, but old computer just can't handle the load. So I guess anything would be an improvement. lol

So, I think I found my answer, the 1150 board.
