Cakerecipes.com is on flippa

I saw this domain yesterday and it's bid was $35. I was like.. OH SHIT I'll throw $500 if I have to. (I don't have much money). I told my good friend about it (of course they didn't understand why I wanted it), I said, "watch I bet it goes for a few thousand dollars".

Check back later that night. The bid is now $30,000

Just tell owner you will send him50k peanuts and you will get the domain

It's Worth A Lot as Its an EMD for a Very high Search keyword. I wouldnt be surpized if it fetched hi 6 figures or even low 7 figures

I would assume that's a shill bid. Jumping from ~$XX to $30k in one bid is just stupid and it's not worth that much. IMO the domain is worth no more than low 5 figures. It's definitely not a 6 or 7 figure domain.

It's a great domain but ....7 figures? Really?

Being I don't have a lot of money.. I would only be able to throw like $700 max.. but I might even still do it. But then I would need to shell out more for a custom WP theme and plugins and shit. But FUCK I want it.

The absolute worst shillers on Flippa are the domain sellers. They make the website sellers look like Saints. Study most of their bidding sequences and you'll see some real strange anomalies.

I found even more awesome domain name that is currently on $80 (at least I think that domain is better - 1 word) on auction... If I had more money I would certainly bid, but site generates only 30 UV per day...

What more is there to explain? They create fake accounts or collude with others to place bids on their listings to inflate the perceived value of the domain.

Like Meathead pointed out; the $30K bid is a shill bid because why would someone bid so high against nothing? Real bidders outbid other real bidders in much smaller increments, they don't bump the bid to $30K from $35

The $30K bid was placed to give the domain a very high perceived value to new potential bidders. The fool must be short on friends or shills as he made a serious error in his haste. Most likely this listing will never reach the Most Active page now. If he had a better list of friends or shills he should have bid in $500 increments to get that bid count much higher early in the listing.

Although this certainly looks like a shill bid it might also be a competitor with extra shills that just spoiled that listing. That listing has another 13 days to run without any Most Active page exposure unless he gets damn lucky. Maybe Flippa will feature it to gain it some much needed exposure.

As far as domain value, recipe sites have been over-done and the amount of money it would take to make this site a competitor to current authority recipe sites is probably in the high 5 figure numbers. There are a ton of authority recipe sites with Corporate backing, Age and sponsors. It's a good domain but will require a serious investment by any purchaser to bank off recipe seeking traffic.

As far as my comment about domain listings having more shill bidding activity it's just a personal observation after seeing so many domain listings in the low 3 figure price range with very high bid counts. You'll see some with 20 bids to $100 all in $5 increments.

people going to a website called cakerecipes are not looking to do anything but get the cake recipe, and with the internet filled with free cake recipes, you'd be hard pressed to make any conversions on the site or even make decent adsense income.

If the domain was so good, it wouldnt be up for sale.
