The second coming of Vine launched a day ago. It is called Byte. Has anybody tried this or heard much about it?

Not available on the Google Play Store for everyone, USA is greenlighted though.

Judging by their Google Forms creator program form https://goo.gl/forms/iPYmRaMfvKAj6XWs2, think you may be right.

Could it come close to TikTok, though? That's the only alternative that comes to mind. But maybe it's different, IDK.

Their forums https://community.byte.co are blowing up though, pretty crowded at the moment.

TikTok has the market share by far. I've just check the google store for the app and it shouldn't have that low rating for reviews, and it's only got 1k reviews too. I'm not very confident in it blowing up at all. TikTok has everything and more, people are just emotionally attached to Vine, but they need to move on. TikTok for the win imo :)

Most people don't seem to think it will catch on from what I've heard

Downloaded it, the app is a lot basic then tikok. Profiles are not really full profiles and only 6 sec videos allowed

So you don´t think its a new good way to start a business on byte?

Its like VERY basic. Once you open all you see is quick 6 second videos, profiles dont have stats such as number of followers. The audience is much more older and love giving criticism in their comments.

Doubt they can beat tiktok

P.S. there is no music component to it, you have to add your own music I guess or its not meant to be used with music like tiktok is.

I personally don't think it will become popular in its current form. As a lot of people have mentioned, it is quite basic, especially when compared to TikTok. I feel like if they are able to make organic reach as easy as it is on TikTok then that will help it grow.

Like notification to followers of new posts outside of tiktok. So i removes the intro image with intro sound and it seems like its doing Much better as far as views go

Vine had its audience back then, they had 200 million users at some point. Vine 2.0, Byte reached over 1 million downloads in three days. The potential is there, but they have a long way to go. TikTok has over 1.5 billion downloads and if was downloaded ~10 times more this weekend than Byte. TikTok is a Chinese company, some people might not like that, probably there are more, who don't care and there are even more, who don't know. They don't necessarily compete for the same audience either and even if they do to an extent, just take a look at how Twitch became popular in the shadow of the giant, Youtube, by beating them in their own game. We'll see.

I think it launched a bit too late. We're at the point where kids are using TikTok as one of their main sources of consuming content, so why would they switch to Byte?

i enjoyed the simple nature of vine. i'll probably enjoy this, too. at the very least, in terms of business, it's a place to promote my brand.
