i know this isn't blackhat talk (it could be if you're looking for niche/news related info), but i found this interesting...considering i grew up in houston and had friends w/parents that worked at nasa...

anyway, i heard that the space shuttle was getting decommissioned 2010...they're gonna replace the orbiter with something called 'the orion' http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orion_(spacecraft)....yup...looks just like something from the apollo missions...

this is the first i've heard about this...maybe i saw it before but forgot...but i think the end of the space shuttle is an end of an era...to be honest, every time i think of the space shuttle i think of the challenger that blew up...i wonder how many other people make that association??? so maybe this is not such a bad move by nasa, maybe it'll get pple really excited about space program?

interesting news... maybe they'll name it "The Enterprise"... lol In all seriousness, I too think of the Challenger and those brave men and women. If I had the money (and I'm not even close) I would gladly pay for the privilege of spending some time in space, even with the risks... but alas, not likely... wait... how 'bout ewhoring from orbit.

I recall reading that the space ship uses computer parts from the 70's. (vacuum tubes, etc)

When something breaks, they literally bid on old ass parts on eBay to fix it. They keep their identity a secret to keep sellers from price gouging.

Knowing that, I fully support the "decommissioning". I suspect they simply couldn't find an auction for "x" part and decided to call it a decommissioning instead of broken.
