Buying old domains

Yo!

I wanted to know if any of you knew about buying a domain that used to exist but no longer does?

Basically, I see a domain that has a load of backlinks some from before 2007 on higher pr site than the one I own I was thinking to buy the name and forward to mine site.

Would this be a good idea?

Would the backlinks count towards my site?

I already have like 7 forwarding domains already will this be bad?

Yes, it will pass on some link juice with a 301 direct, but it would only work to some extent. Don't base your whole SEO plan on 301 directs, however, mix it up.

If I buy an old domain, I create a website on this domain and try to create pages with the same URLs... My content can be different but it doesn't matter, I just want to keep the backlink ok.

Cheers guys, I wasnt doing a 301 i dont think, I just put go daddy to redirect it for me (unless that is classed as a 301 im very new to all this lol)

Frogserv you reckon to buy it and run it as a independent site? The problem with that is I dont have time to make another site, I am 100% dedicated to the one I run and trying to turn into a online deity for the niche i have selected.

So far since starting to run the site 8 months ago I have over 250 unique visitors a day it is Google PR 3 and on the first page for a whole bunch of keywords - Is that good growth or bad? again I am new i was under the opinion I was doing well but i dont know how long it takes guys on here (you lot seem to be genius's lol)

I literally started teaching myself about running a site when I started to run it so everything I know i have learned in the past 8 months which is why i ask these sort of questions which are probably trivial to you lot lol

I do that, but if you don't have the time to continue with many websites (I understand that): stop buying old domain

it depends on the niche, so social niches require thousands of visitors to make tiny amount of money. Getting traffic wise you may be "successful", but that may or may not translate into real money.

The money doesnt come from ads atm I did a few test runs but they didnt pay enough to make it worth while.

I make through services - Nothing great at all but I only added the paid services like a week or two ago lol

The effort will be too much, why not get a new one and do some really good SEO on that. Domain ages do play a factor in theSERPs but only to an extent. Content and quality are what really matter.

I would say the old domain would mostly send you 'real visitors' not really and SE value.

I was struggling with this today. But my surprise was, that old expired domains do not keep their original PRs (if it ever was real!) but on very rare "unknown" cases. So only reason I know to buy old domain is to get it transferred to you, which is very unlikely if seller is any sane OR have domain with backlinks, that give you real traffic OR you just love the domain name. I still wonder if the age of the domain could be some help on SERPs. Anyway I decided not to buy old domains anymore but keep on building with new ones.

You can buy "expiring" domains that have yet to be deleted.
