Buying Expired Domains

Hey Guys! I am starting to analyze expired domaing to buy, but I am having a doubt: Most of the backlinks targeted to the site link to other pages in the domain. For example if the domain was dogs, kom the backlinks would targeted to dogs( . kom / bigdogs , dogs . kom / littledogs,etc. So once I rebuild the site, if I dont create the same pages, most of the linkjuice would be lost, right?

It all depends on the link structure of the site / age of the domain registry as far as whether or not SEO will stick
you will take a hit, regardless, from the de-reg of the domain itself
but every once in awhile you find a diamond in the sea of shit out there

Curious if anyone knows of any great guides out there? I would guess not considering how valuable, in the right hands, that info could be. That is, it is just one of those things people keep to themselves. TIA.

Not sure of any good ones off the top of my head but hell with my experience alone we could put one together real quick PM me bro

It would be better to go for those domains that you can restructure the way they were originally setup. If there are strong links pointing at internal pages that you cannot rectreat, try 301ing to the homepage.

Hey! I have digged more into this issue, and with a simple plugin like 404 simple redirect you can maintain all the linkjuice of the domain.

Yes, page authority would be lost, but domain authority would still get juice.

URLs shouldn't change, according to the google dictator's rules.

Yes, right, but the Domain Authority will remain. You can do the internal pages with the same URL, OR make redirect 301 from the old pages to the new ones

For example if the page which talking about little dogs, at the old site it was domain dot com/little-dogs But in the new one you will make it /small-dogs Make redirect 301 from the old URL to the new URL and you will save the authority and rank of each page.

You can get the names of the old url from Google, search with the follwoing

site:example.com

if the links had been dropped from Google, make Google Webmaster Tools account, it will show you the most of the old URLs in the crawler errors.

Not only can you rebuild the inner pages, which have links - you can also try to use Wayback Machine and rebuild the content as well. That way you'll make sure that your links will remain even after manual review of the link from the other site's webmaster. Besides, if that person linked to that page with a good link, it might have useful content anyway.

I would advise against simply redirecting the pages to the homepage. The best thing to do would be to recreate the exact same urls and similar content for each page. However depending on the situation this could be impossible or just too time consuming to do. What I do is the following -

1. When I buy an expired domain, I get a list of all the pages on the domain that were linked to. (From Majestic Seo, Ahrefs etc)
2. If it is manageable, I create the exact same pages on the new site. (I create new content)
3. If the number of pages is too high and not worth the effort I categorize the pages into small number of categories (6-10). I then create pages for these categories and redirect the appropriate urls to the single category page. This categorization depends on your industry and keywords targeted.

For instances where I cannot create the exact same URL, I use a simple redirect wordpress plugin.

In your case, if you have too many links like domain/big-dogs, domain/little-dogs, and you do not want to create individual pages. You can create a single page called domain/dogs and redirect all dog based urls there.

When I'm buying domains watching to have good IP POP 50+ and if i'm not selling just a domain, checking a web archive of that domain, if that content is not indexed somewhere else, i copy that content and publish.

You already answer your question (in your thread itself), then why do you still want to buy expired Domain?

If you're using Wordpress get a redirect plugin and point every 404 to Homepage so you won't lose any backlinks.
