What's the trick to this? How long will the PR last? Is it a good idea to get a high PR link?

First analyze the domain age, backlink profile, DA, PA, reffering domain.

If you see legit and strong backlink profile, its pagerank will not lose.. But if it is fake pagerank in next update, the PR will be gone.

I agree with him...! Not only page rank is the main concern for a site there are some other things to have a look as listed below before making a decision to buy it....!

check out domain buying blackbelt it is a free course and it is very very good. I have bought paid courses that were no better!

Ask for access to their webmaster central and check their full link building profile and suggested anchor texts...be aware of temporal redirects (302) or supposedly permanent redirects (301) done with the sole purpose of selling you those domains...as soon as they get the sale they can take out those redirects from high pr domains and within the next update you will have less PR....

If he doesn't have anything to hide, he will let u know their link building profile history and evolution and explain everything in detail....don't trust any webmaster or website owner that doesn't want to share this info with you easily....
