I hope this is the right section for this post.

Lets say someone had a site that has a decent PR / backlinks and wanted to sell it to you - you're both in the same niche BTW. If you bought their domain and forwarded it via a 301 permanent redirect to your site, would you ultimately absorb their PR and backlinks to your site? All things being equal, the backlinks it has accumulated simply points to the main page of their site.

Example: SiteA.com buys SiteB.com and does a 301 redirect of SiteB.com to SiteA.com.

Would SiteA.com inherit the additional backlinks and pagerank from the 301 redirect of SiteB.com? If SiteA.com had 5 backlinks and SiteB.com had 5 backlinks, would G00gle now see SiteA.com as having 10 backlinks due to the 301 redirect??

Thanks in advance.

I dont think so, because the two websites are hosted on different IP's and google can see that.

PageRank is for a page not a site. You would see an increase for your landing page (if the 5 back links are different), but the rest would stay the same.

You would be better off linking the pages from their site to your similar pages. Ideally having both sites on seperate IP's
