Buying domains on godaddy?

When I was trying to buy a domain in which I had the highest offer, there was like 1 day left, and all of a sudden, the time left was extended to 90 days? What gives? Can the seller just do that until he receives an offer he feels is high enough?

I feel you can get over 90 extended period after that domain will blow away from your account.

Also, to guy above, I don't see anything about a reserve. It's a make offer type.
