Buying Domains for Micro Niche Sites

If there are multiple exact domain names available for a good keyword/variation of the keyword, would the strategy be to register all of the domains? If not, how do you know which one you should register?

For example, if the keyword was 'pencil boxes' and the following domains were all available:

pencilboxes
pencilbox
buypencilbox
buypencilboxes

Assuming all 4 keywords had decent search volume and low competition, what would you do?

I WOULD BUY A PEN
that works

no but seriously, I would buty the one domain
which is easy to spell, easy to remember etc...
and use (append) or add (addendum/extend) with a verb,
like
best buy pencil boxes etc...
or
pencilboxshop
etc... tailor it to your niche.

Personally I would purchase either pencilboxes or buypencilboxes with an s or es on the end that way you are getting the keyword value of pencilboxes (Pencilbox & Pencilboxes)

Also if it was me I would purchase both of the two above domain names.

If the highest volume keyword is "Pencil boxes", I would buy pencilboxes....I don't like appending Buy etc to domains...less brand-able.

well lets say each of the 4 get 500 exact searches/month. does it make sense to buy all 4 for 4 separate micro niche sites? or do you think i could still get the 2,000 total with just ONE domain name?

I would want more than 500 searches a month per keyword, then I would at least buy the 2 without the word "buy", or if all 4 were getting at least 1,000 searches per month I would buy all 4 of them if I wanted to dominate that keyword. It depends on the CPC also, if the profits were high enough then less searches are fine, but if it's not worth your time what's the sense.
