Hey guys,

I am starting a brand new website in a pretty competetive niche. In order to help the ranking, i am considering buying a domain which is relevant to my niche.
Not too familiar with this strategy so i would like to know what you think?

I checked ahrefs and the expired domain has as a DA of 54, 97K backlinks - all do-follow and here comes the in my opinion fishy part...only 75 websites linking to the domain (59 do-follow)
MOZ doesnt have any data and Majestic shows a trustflow of 20, citation flow 13 and says it has 37K inboud links and a total of 11K urls indexed.

Would this be a good buy for $10 or you think i should dig a bit deeper?
Love to hear your opinions. Thanks!

Price point is perfect. I think $10 is even cheaper than than regular domain with no metrics.

I would not over engineer it. Check the domains link to it if they are normal sites and not spams or pbns. check the mix are there any high DA sites or its just no metrics.

For that price I would still buy it for testing sake.

if you're talking about expired domains there are many checks that need to be done, as per this checklist by @Nargil:

https://www.blackhatworld.com/seo/what-is-your-checklist-for-domains-for-pbn.1342695/#post-14514468

However, if the price is only $10 but the domain seems so good.... well... I'm sure you can see the issue (it's too good to be true)

So, my first and blind guess is that the domain is bad, but it's best that you run it through the checkpoints on that list to make sure... Or just buy the domain from Nargil and save yourself headaches and blind guesses

$10? Most likely, this isn’t just a randomly expired domain but one deliberately abandoned by its previous owner. And almost certainly, the reason is Google penalties - the owner probably decided it was cheaper to drop the domain than try to recover from the sanctions.

But you can only say anything for sure once you have full access to the domain and Google Search Console.

Those metrics indicates that this domain is really spammed, they artifically increased its DA by pointing tons of low quality backlinks to this domain, that's why you are seeing it with DA 54.

Tbh, I would go with a new and clean domain instead of this one. But of course, if you have the budget, you can buy an aged domain for $300-$500, clean and organic
