Buying " Connects" on Upwork

So i just checked out upwork after a couple of people recomended it but you have to buy connects to submit proposals to clients ?
Is this actually worth it ?

It seems like a bizare money grabbing feature for a site like this you would think they would just take a percentage of what your paid ( which they do as well )

Has anyone had success on Upwork ?

Connects are very costly now a days and success ratio is less. But many freelancers are still doing very good on Upwork they are getting very good number of clients who give them regular work and become long-term clients. The starting phase of Upwork is really very frustrating but once you get a client you will enjoy working on it but the main thing is consistency and following the right rules then you will definitely get good clients.

I’ve worked on Upwork before and never paid to send proposals. My profile would sometimes receive a lot of client invites, almost like it was trending

I’m wondering if it’s possible to scale that and turn it into a real business, and how to get more consistent work that way
