Buying an inactive, registered domain?

Check the registrar, sign up and backorder the domain. If the current owner doesn't renew, you will get it for reg fee once expired.

I just want to buy the domain name, there is no website running on it at the moment.

Registrar: ENOM, INC.
Sponsoring Registrar IANA ID: 48
Whois Server: whois.enomDOTcom
Referral URL: enomDOTcom
Name Server: NS27.DOMAINCONTROLDOTCOM
Name Server: NS28.DOMAINCONTROLDOTCOM
Status: clientTransferProhibited
Updated Date: 31-oct-2013
Creation Date: 29-may-1995
Expiration Date: 28-may-2022

When going to the site, you get:

The server at domainDOTcom can't be found, because the DNS lookup failed. DNS is the network service that translates a website's name to its Internet address. This error is most often caused by having no connection to the Internet or a misconfigured network. It can also be caused by an unresponsive DNS server or a firewall preventing Google Chrome from accessing the network.

Does this mean, that backordered the domain won't let me have it until 28th May 2022?!

Yes, since it has been registered till 28/05/2022, even if you backorder it, you won't get it before that date. And if the current owner plans to renew it before that, you still won't get it!

The only way to get it before that is try contacting the owner of the domain, look up for his details and make him an offer he can't refuse.

Something is telling me that they wont sell it...no one register sites for 10 years if they wanna drop it.

wait for 7 years and then register it once it get expire :D

Gah thought so. Scrap that idea then!

I'll just get the domain, prefixed with "my". Works just as well. Thanks all
