Buying an expired domain from GoDaddy

Hey guys,

So there's an expiring domain over at GoDaddy that I'm interested in buying. No PR, no links. It is indexed in Google. Reason I'm buying it is because it has my keywords in the domain, and it's aged.

I've read around a bit and see that it's important to be careful of domains that have been hit with a penalty.

Is there any way for me to determine that? Or is that just a risk of buying expired domains?

If the domain is indexed in Google, you shouldn't have to worry. It's the names that are not indexed that could be a problem.

You can run it through archive dt (Oh R G) and see what used to be on the site and if it looks like it was a splog or some other junk, then be wary. Doesn't mean it was penalized or anything but it's still good to check a sites previous life.

Google index & Archive are pretty good way to tell if a domain is banned or not. I previously had registered a banned domain and it took me over 1.5 years to get it indexed again.
