Hey Guys,

Does it make sense to buy an old domain with no backlinks if my purpose is to rank faster? Will it make ant difference at all?

Thanks.

It depends on how much you are going to spend on that domain. Yes, SEO point of view, aged domain has some value in ranking factor. But that alone will not give any high ranking

It might have made sense sometime back but with the ever changing SEO / SEM world, I wouldn't give it that much weight-age - You're better off finding a domain with a niche that isn't much competitive - All the best :)

I know from experience that 4-5 years ago an aged domain with zero backlinks would have made a world of difference in terms of being able to rank fast. But now I see that this might have changed...

Anyone else? What's your experience?

I want to ask almost the same question, but the difference is that the aged domain from auction is my niche with about 10 clean links, not strong links, does it help?

Aged domains have very good page authority which is one of the factors in Google's ranking. plus having no backlinks means you can start with it fresh, you don't have to worry about low quality backlinks that would eventually end up being the cause of your penalty so yes you sure purchase it

Domain. Age. Is. Not. A. SEO. Factor.

Google. Doesn't. Give. A. Fuck. About. Domain. Registration. Date.

Entire point of even getting expired/auction domains is for them to already have existing backlink profiles. To help you rank faster and save money on offsite SEO down the line.

So no, buying a domain without a backlink profile, that was registered for the first time 10 years ago, won't help you with anything whatsoever.

If the domain is clean and related to your niche, then you can buy it. Depending on site trust, it may help to reduce the sandbox period. As you mentioned it is aged domain with no backlinks, so age factor gives only very small impact to your site. If that site has gained good authority and with backlinks then i think it will be extra benefit to site. But not worry, If you keep posting good content frequently and pointing quality links without spamming the site. Gradually It will help you to rank and yes it will take some solid time.

Yes, it makes sense. just make sure to check the domain history before.

If its for a money site I'd suggest going for a domain name that makes sense to your project rather than rushing for a live domain that might not be the best in terms of branding. If it has no backlinks then it's not worth it IMO, but it's an interesting question nonetheless.

There is no such thing as sandbox :)

any site can get ranked within a limited period of time depending on the difficulty of keyword.

It'll be a lot better if you can get both. Aged domains and have strong link profiles on them.

Thank you all for your replies.

The domain I am considering is more than 10 years old and up to a few months back there was a live website directly related to my niche. If it were 2015 right now I would buy this domain and rank it within 3-4 months with not much effort while with a brand new domain it would take 6+ months. This is my experience so age did matter back then.

But due to some Google algo changes in the last years most weak domains, no matter aged or new, will now not rank for the naked domain name (without TLD) which makes my doubt whether aged domains have any advantages nowadays. Five years ago when you typed the naked domain name in Google and the site ranked top1 it would have been a clear indication that the domain was not penalized or had any other filter applied whatsoever.

PS: sorry guys for the silly questions, haven't done much SEO in the last years. Trying to catch up at the moment.

Aged domains are the most trust worthy one... if it is without backlink then it is an additional plus for you hence you can begin whatever you want... it is preferable one

I want some premium domains with clean backlinks profile & High RD on some industry. Can anyone point me towards any good seller in here with affordable price range I can use?
