I apologize if this is in wrong section.

So I wanted to register a new domain. So i went to my hosting and typed in the name and it sayed it was taken already.

Ok....happens all the time....so i look through the recommended names of all the variants of it and there it was with green go aheads to register

So i clicked on the .com one and then it shows up to buy it only its in a different format.

i typed exampledomain.com and then it showed up as ExampleDomain.com

So I was like huh how is this. so i went to the site and typed in both ways and it both led to the same page which appears to be a site that probally was from the 90s built with pure html.

Anyways I was thinking about buying it just to see what happens

But before hand figured i would ask if anyone has seen this or know anything about it.

No body? Im gonna give it 5 more minutes for any advice then im going to buy it

domains aren't case sensitive... so ExampleDomain.com, exampledomain.com, eXampledoMain.com are all the same.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Domain_name#Domain_name_confusion
"Intercapping is often used to emphasize the meaning of a domain name. However, DNS names are not case-sensitive, and some names may be misinterpreted in certain uses of capitalization. For example: Who Represents, a database of artists and agents, chose whorepresents.com, which can be misread as whore presents."

I got that I just dont understand why It would give me an option to register the domain. Im going to go for it..... whats the worst that can happen I lose 10 bucks?

what's the site where you're trying to register the domain at?

if it's not a well reputable domain registrar.. then check on godaddy, internet.bs or whois.net to see if they list it as available as well.

well i registered for it and added it to my server. Installed wp....and nothing. haha thesite.com/wp-admin doesnt work....however it is listed as a registered domain of mine. figured it would be too good to be true...and in fact it would probally be like i was stealing someones domain i suppose.....I dont know much about actual domains and what all goes into it. but who knows maybe its going to expire soon or something of that matter..

oh and i use arvixe for my hosting and registering.

if you run a whois on the domain you bought here: http://who.godaddy.com/

you can see if the domain registrar is arvixe.. if the person that previously owned the domain had registered it through arvixe as well and canceled his monthly plan they could have put it available on their website but left a landing page running ads until someone buys it possibly.

This sounds like something that happened to me.

I registered a domain, but when I type it in to the address bar, it would go to a website that wasn't mine. So after some researching I found out that the domain had expired but for some reason the old owner still had it set to his nameservers that went to his hosting account.

Even the registar didn't know how to deal with it. Eventually they got a transfer code and transfered to my account.
So get on the phone and find out what's going on.

You know how awesome this would be!!! I just did more research on it

And this domain is a 15 year old domain.
its a PR 4
It ranks on first page for the EMD
and according to adwords keyword tool global monthly is 68 mil and local is 20.4 mil

Seems too good to be true

Did you backorder the domain?

Ok...so under my billing panel it says "pending registration" for the status where all my other domains say active.

So lets just hope for the best and pray that post #8 is correct and i some how acquire this domain.

In the mean time I don't really do too much seo or anything i just make android apps and make amazon auto post wp blogs that seem to get long tail keyword stuff by a lil method that i figured out. even so seo doesnt go into it at all

so if i were to get this site how would i maintain this page 1 ranking with having to add completely new content!..and even so its on the bottom of page one how would i make it rise! Second of all i would definatly want to turn this into a amazon store...do you think that this would kill the ranking

Check the domain status in Domaintools.com. If it show your details as owner then it's yours (or any WHOIS). If not then your registrar must have tried to backordered the domain. It's rare a good old expired domain slip through domainors fingers. They always keep an eye on these.

You're wasting your time. You've put yourself on the backorder list. They've got it renewed for the next four years.

You can put any domain on your server but until you point the nameservers at the registrar to your server it means nothing. You can't point the nameservers because you don't own the domain.

It says blah blah owns it
Well who knows at this point i am going to wait a day or two and see if in my billing status that it shows active on the domain vice "pending registration" ....maybe my hosting will contact me and say oops this isnt right. Im not going to get my hopes up.

Hello,

The domain is already registered. It was first registered in 1997:

I apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused. I can credit your account for the amount you paid for the registration or refund it. Please advise.
