Buying a competitor site

Hey guys,

I have a site which ranks on 1st page for some low traffic keywords and on second page for medium traffic keywords.

One of the competitors ranks in first 3-5 position for medium traffic keywords. But he doesn't make as much from it because he doesn't seem to know how to monetize it.

I contacted him and he is ready to sell it for a low price.

As I checked in Ahrefs, recently, someone has done a negative seo on that site and there are a lot of backlinks with porn anchor texts for that site,though position is not changed much.

My question is, Should I buy and redirect it to my main site? Will it increase ranking for keywords that site is ranking?

Negative SEO can be dealt by sending links Disvllowing request to Google. I suggest you to buy the website and run it as separate entity.
 
You can buy that site, non-relevant backlinks can be removed with help of the webmaster. IMO you can work on that site separately.
 
It's a no brainer if the price is right and the neg seo hasn't done damage.

You could even use the neg seo aspect to get a further discount is price !
 
Absolutely yes. You can buy and use it for your requirement. Before that, you should disavow the links by requesting Google. This kind of sites like a big pillar for your site.

Either way op just keep it separately, better to take up space 1-5 than just 1 especially if the sites both provide value. you'd likely increase your chances of converting different users.
 
It is a great opportunity for you. You should buy it and remove these links! Good luck!
 
If the site is still ranking (ranking still visible on the search engine - perhaps that's how you find that website initially), then no harm in buying that website if the price is right.
I do not recommend using a 301 or pointing that site to yours - keep both sites separate, and now you have 2 spots on the search engine for the same term - that's more visibility for you!
Both a win-win situation.
 
Why would you buy that website to redirect it to your site? If you buy that website, which u say perform better than your, then just monetize it and leave alone your project... I don't see a point to mess up with 301 redirect here
 
Yes you can buy the site and submit Disvllowing request to Google the non-relevant link. If you want you can redirect this site to your main site you will get huge link juice. Best of luck.
 
Check the date of those negative links, if its older than 6 months buy it without second thinking (google also detects intentionally created spam links by competitor)
if its not less than 6 months wait for some more months and notice how the ranking oscillates, if the oscillation is not higher just buy it.
even if its ranking is down, you still buy it provided if you can do the hard work of selecting each and every spam link and submitting them to disavow link in google.
 
I would run both the sites as separate entities. Keep them as separate as possible, and avoid linking the sites in anyway.

That way, you have insured yourself. If one of your sites gets killed by Google somehow, you still have another site.

This is your chance to both diversify and crank your revenue up a notch. Take it!

not completely dead, but i suppose google's random ranking theory applies here. read more about it in BHW.
But negative seo is not so harsh in ranking like it is used to be.
When you start a site with HQ links and then shower low quality links it mostly looks like the job of your competitors and not yours :-) just a common sense.
just prove google that you are capable of HQ connections and when poor links are coming in google will tolerate them.
