Hello

I have been looking at a lot of business directory scripts. I have also heard of a lot of nightmares where some of the better ones can be buggy and need paid updates / or a coder to fix.

Are there any recommended ones or ideally open source scripts it is very annoying as I find open source versions of link directories, article directories and a few others but no business directories.

There were also some recommended here but they were inside a pdf that I tried downloading and could never open?

Any help would be much appreciated. We are on a small budget for this and would ideally like one with a .csv import and big g maps if poss. Failing that is there a decent commercial one that wont cost an arm and a leg in updates / coders to fix. Ideally I dont want a nulled / illegal script.

Many thanks in advance you guys rock!

:)

I have done a number of searches here, big g and our dl section for a lot of different terms.

Sometimes I struggle to find stuff with the search here. Not sure why its probably me

If you could point me in the direction of that script it would be much appreciated. I have tried looking and advanced search for it and nothing :(

Many thanks

:)

I am very familiar (I have many licenses) with the vast majority of scripts (commercial one since I do not have interest in open/free).

Here are a few possibilities:

Esyndicat
+:): many free plugings included
cheap
2.3 is in BETA now, (and my guess a stable is a 2+ months away) and it does look cool

-:(: support is average
reliability is far from perfect
not a lot of templates available
not a lot of external help (paid) available

PHPLD
+:): cheap
good forum (not free)
many free templates available
since it's very popular, lots of external (paid) help is available if needed

-:(: not a real business directory IMO
you will most likely to add many external (most not free) plugins or custom to make it do want you want

Edirectory (don't have that one)

+:): seems quite complete

- :(: high purchasing cost or high rental cost

PowerSeek

+ :): excellent support
stable

- :(: cost
not a lot of external help available and the only one that is suggested on the site is bad.
not a lot of regular updates

As for my next directory, I will be using Joomla + Moset Directory (paid)
Can't say much because this is my first with Joomla, but I am expecting that it will be more expensive since I will buy a few extensions to make it better.

A few other are available of course.

i would recommend joomla and the sobi component - both are open source with 3rd party addons, you can also use the many seo plugins for joomla to optimize it and also expand the functionality with the 1000's of additional addons for joomla, checkout the likes of templateplazza.com for some template layouts too :)

mosets is good however i dont like the fact they encrypt some of the code, particularily not good if you intend to heavily customize it... plus you have to pay for it too! lol

Thanks a lot guys as usual you rock!

I have been surprised at the very poor options I found from searching here and big g. I will check out these options.

I am polarised to Joomla as I believe it could reward me later on for another project.

Code:

This is one of the best I have found. Has anyone used or heard of it?

:)

This is PHPmydirectory

I also have a few licenses but never had a chances to useed them yet , LOL . So I can't comment much. I visited the forum a few times and it seems that everything is turning around one guy (the developer) for support. As far as I know, I think he is doing this p.t.

One thing that is good about them is the geo search.

There are not a lot of good external help available and only 2 templates providers.

The standard template is poor IMO.

there is a wp based plugin called wfreview i believe...i have used it in the past...pretty cool 'directory' tool but it costs $120 i believe...

This will be really good for another project I am doing.

I think I will try the Joomla and call the site beta then try to find my feet.

Joomla seems to be a bit of a PITA to find good tutorials on though. 99% seem to cover the actual install and admin etc. building templates many ppl are trying to sell me tuts

Thanks again for all the help guys.

:)

PHPDirectorySource is free and an excellent script. It uses smarty temps and is very easy to customise. Check it out at phpdirectorysource.com
