Is there such a thing as a bullet proof name registrar? - How do some of the big names compare, GoDaddy, Namecheap etc? How much and what type of abuse will they tolerate? - Can you own a domain without a name registrar?

it depends what kind of content you are planning to host and the kind of abuse you will get. GoDaddy is worst, Namecheap is good but I do not recommend for bulletproof or for privacy

+1 for njal.la

It is all lies. Bulletproof domain doesn't exist.

ccTLD is your best way to remain online more time and being resistant against some laws.

Pay with Monero (XMR).
Njal.la is not bulletproof, but is anonymous no info required.

Right.

Namecheap as recently dropped one domain using .to not recommended at all. but still worth.
Paying with Monero is the best way, providers that accept monero are many including Namecheap, Abelohost, Flokinet, Alexhost

You can apply to become a direct registrar so your own abuse and registrar name is in the Whois. You apply directly on the Nic Registry and can be costly for each ccTLD you apply for.
