Building widgets/tools etc for affiliate links

Hey guys,

I'm thinking of building some sites with novelty features to get users.. then link to product sites with affiliate links.

Idea being that I can join the various affiliate programs around the world and then build small microsites that perform novelty for the users..

Is this a good model?

What are the cons of this type of thing?
