Building strong links or weaker links in teh start?

So I have had this domain (my 1st IM project back then) which I have built bunch of profile and web2 ad forum link, I didnt know much about SEO at that time 9end of last year) and the domain had 15DA 31 PA and 0 TF (I guess cause of weak links) , now I have 301 redirected that domain to the newly registred (more brandable name) , the new domain now has 16 DA... I wonder does it make difference if the first link which you build are such link ? (profile, web 2 , forum) and no guest post and PBNS ?? Or you should build strong links ? Now if I start building stron links to my domain will it gain strength ?
And also about 301, that domain whichI redirected is soon expiring. Does that mean if I do not renew it , the redirection effect will cease and new domain will lose DA and all backlinks ?

In my experience, 1 link from a high authority site works better than 1,000 spammy links. I've had the best luck building high authority links first. After you have some high authority links which will help increase your DA, then you can build some less powerful (but not spammy) links. Good luck

whats about 301 expiration thing ?
