Building sites for money VS hobby

I have not discovered anything new, but every time I build websites as my hobbies they always get more visitors and readers than when I try to build sites just for making money. People can easily find out that I dont have any pleasure about what I write and that I just want them to click on ads or fill in forms etc.Unfortunatelly the topics I can write on are very hard to monetize. So thats the story :)

I've noticed that too. When you have a passion in something, your words just flow and you set up things the way you would like to see them. When doing it for money, sometimes I have that glazzy eyed stare that I feel the context conveyed is transmitted through the words/images on the screen. I only try to do things I'm passionate about, and then find a way to monetize something vs the other way around. When going for money only, I personally give up and kill the site instead of seeing it through. That's just my $0.02.

Seems like there is no win-win situation for you :). If you like the work, it's hard to monetize it. When sites can easily be monetized, you don't like the work.

You have two options:
a) Find something that you like and it's easy to monetize
b) Hire someone to do the work you don't like for you - you can easily find writers and website "monetizers" out there.
 
So you need to figure out a niche which is profitable and well as appealing to your interests.

btw, what niche did you have problem monetizing? People even monetize funny image sites.

I think it is better to have a very popular site with low commercial value than an unpopular site with big commercial potential.

Or maybe create your own product in the niche if you lack options to monetize. Sky is the limit
 
it is about psychology, history, paranormal etc. I have to note it is oriented for a non-english speaking country and therefore there is not something like Clickbank or Amazon (If it were, I would just post there some products such as e-books) it sucks...
 
I agree. Sometimes though when you're going through depressions or a down time, it's hard to write articles.
 
Throw in occasional keywords in every post from the same well paing niche. Don't change the niche, just make it so that AdSense thinks that the blog is about law or software or whatever, when in reality it may be about politics or sports.
