Building PR for a forum

Hi guys, I've been reading a lot (mostly this confuses the shit out of me!) on here about building PR quickly on your website.

I have a forum tho... and it's currently PR0. Is the strategy for building PR for a forum different to a small targeted site?

There's a list of high PR forums on here and I've been checking them and I don't really see HOW they got that PR...

Appreciate any advice given, thank you in advance!

Have you checked Majestic, Open Site Explorer, Ahrefs, Blekko and Bing WT? You should easily identify all of the quality backlinks in under an hour.

I'd strongly recommend you don't concern yourself with Pagerank. It only updates every few months anyway, and it is only a sign as to how much authority a site has. You're much better off trying to build rankings and hence traffic rather than pagerank (unless you're planning on selling links or similar)...

PR is only important if you are thinking of selling the forum after sometime, So try to use longtail keywords to make sure to get relevant traffic then it will improve automatically.

Get yourself some quality content on the website, and then you are in the money.
The key is that you need something worthwhile to help reference, then once you've got some real quality threads going. Begin to strategically market those threads on blogs, and other sources so that you can build up a forum base.
If the threads/content is good enoguh you'll start to receive backlinks naturally as well which makes your life a while lot easier.
