Hey everyone, this is my first post here on BlackHat. Your community is extremely informative! I'm fairly new to SEO and different link building techniques.

This may be a dumb question but... I have launched an ecommerce site in a very competitive niche. I rank fairly well for specific product title searches in google and decent for a few vague keywords I'm targeting. After 2 weeks I average around 200 visits daily and have had 5 purchases totaling 10 units.

Anyway, I'm in link building mode. Do I need to be focused on gaining links to the homepage (has very little content) or to specific product pages? Should I set a starter goal of 10 links per product page and gradually increase that number? Or should I focus on building 500-1000 links to the main page?

The best thing to do is to figure out which pages are your best performing pages and then put more effort into those pages. As you get more pages higher in the serps, you'll begin showing up for more related keywords.

Awesome. I have been using that method but I've only gained 330 links in the past 2 weeks. I don't want to go blackhat and possibly ruin my site rep. Thank you for your advice.

google tend to rank ecommerce site higher for certain keywords, make sure you do proper competition check first, if other ecommerce site is ranking, then probably you could outrank them, best is to build authority for your main domain
