Building New Computer!

The computer turned on. The CPU base speed is 4.00 GHz. Good boy.

Well, at the very least now I got the CPU on my new computer to operate the same as the one on my old computer. Meaning, STABLE.

The new PC is running at 4.00 GHz base speed, and hovering around 3.90 GHz in usage, at least for the moment while idle.

The old PC is running at 3.89 GHz base speed, and hovering around 3.80 GHz in usage, at least for the moment while idle.

I set the BIOS to default earlier, so the ram on my new PC now operates at 2400. I'm gonna go in and increase it to 3000 where it was before, and then I'll turn on all the programs again, and start putting them to work on both computers, and compare behaviors.
 
Well, because YOLO, I overclocked my memory to 3200.

When I did it before I had blue screens of death (is that term still used? :D ) and program crashes. But I figure maybe with the CPU operating more stable, maybe now it plays nice.

Here's the thing. When I set my RAM to 3200, the DRAM Voltage increase to 1.350 (default is 1.200V). But before my CPU was running at 1.20V.

Now that I've overclocked the CPU, how I set it, both the CPU and Rams will operate on about 1.35V.

I mean, that's my understanding anyway. Maybe now that works.

Worth a shot I guess...

If it doesn't work I'll put it to 3000 where it was very stable.
 
I turned it on, RAM is at 3200MHz, CPU is at 4.00 GHz.

I turned on 70 programs. I had 2 crashes only. But it it happened twice, it will probably happen again, or I'll get a full blue error screen and the PC will restart.

But I'll just proceed for now. Both PCs run at about 5% CPU. The old PCc at 46% memory and the new one at 50% memory. They both have the same things opened on them.

Now I'll start putting them to work. I'll do 10 programs at a time. I must say that the programs I'm running could end up doing different things, and some would require more power than others. So I can't equalize this test perfectly, but I'll do what I can.

At 10 programs running pretty equal actions, the RAM increased by 1% on both PCs, but CPU went up to 10% on new PC and up to 50%+ on old PC.

At 20 programs the RAM went up another 1%, but CPU went up to about 30% for new PC and 60% for old, at least when they peaked.

At 30 programs everything is more or less like before. But I'll just note that the old PC is using 23.6 Memory while the new PC uses 24.0 Memory.

At 40 programs the new PC is at about max 50% CPU and the old PC went up to 90%+ usage. The memory 46% on old PC and 51% on new PC.

At 50 programs both PCs at about 50% CPU utilization, and a 47% memory for old PC and 53% for new PC.

Now things tend to get hot and spicy...

At 60 programs the new PC at about 60% CPU and old PC at about 70%, and a 50% memory for old PC and 53% memory for new PC.

At 70 programs the memory on old PC is about 48% and on new PC about 55%. The old P is running at about 90-95% CPU, while the new PC is stuck on 99% CPU. Programs have already started crashing on the new PC, then there was like a screen blackout for a second on the new PC, CPU usage dropped a little then went right back up to 99%.

Ok, it's one thing for the CPU to work at 99% and be slow, and it's another for programs to be crashing. But OCing the CPU has allowed me to run RAM at 3200 with less issues. I'll increase the CPU OC from 4000MHz to 4100MHz, see if that stops the crashes.

What I learned:

- My old PC has "Virtualization" Disabled, while new PC has it enabled. I gotta look into this, I don't know what it is.
- It turns out the memory, at least so far, is consistent between the computers. They're both using more or less the same amount of memory for the same activity. That's good.
- My old P also uses Disk a little bit. I see small occasional spikes of 1-2% in the Disk tab on task manager. My new PC hasn't used Disk once, at all, zero.
- Also my new PC uses about 25% of the GPU, while my old PC doesn't even have a GPU tab in task manager :D
 
And now the new PC crashed...
 
Well, I increased CPU to 4.1 MHz.

I checked my other computers too, all have "Virtualization" Disabled. Only the new PC has it enabled. So I disabled it.

I'll try again.

I should throw the new computer right out of a fucking window!!!
 
Ok programs are crashing again. I'll reduce RAM back to 3000MHz. It was worth a shot.

The computer crashed before I could close all the programs and restart it.

I'll also drop the CPU back to 4.0 GHz
 
I changed the RAM to 3000 MHz and turned Virtualization off.

I turned on the computer, turned on 70 programs, no crashes no problems.

That's it, I'm done. I'll let it run at 70 programs and see how it performs, although I suspect I'll have to drop it to 65 or 60 programs in order to have it work the way I need.

It's mind boggling that I can put a better GPU, a better PSU, a better CPU and slightly better ram in a computer, and still it can barely handle what my other computer can handle. My other computer has shit GPU and PSU, and a worse CPU, and slightly worse ram.

I should have went with my first instinct and built another computer like my old one. Don't fix it and don't upgrade/update it if it ain't broken, asshole. Ugh...

I was just hoping to throw some more money at it, make a better computer all around, and be able to run at least 100 of my programs.

Ok, ok, I'm still alive, healthy and hungry. Business is good. I have a new computer which will help. It won't help tremendously, because it's an asshole, but it will help some :D

Note to self: On next computer hire an expert and explain to him what you do and have him tell you what you need...

Also when I switch between my programs, there's a lag in switching and a lag in being able to use the program I switched to. More so than on my other computer.

I guess I'll set the CPU back to auto, let it self regulate the MHz it uses. I think it wasn't as loud then. Whatever, I don't really are at this point.

You are running what 70 programs? And bought some cheap loud fans so not sure what you are expecting here? Ive built a silent case yet once things arw running, its still "loud" as that can be expected.

I'm running 70 Firefox portable browsers.

The CPU fan is loud. Wraith cooler. I didn't put any of those fans on the computer.

Next time go with BeQuiet Dark Rock 3 or 4 for the CPU cooler ;) those are silent.. Maybe you also have to set the temp and vent settings in bios. 70 firefox portables shouldn't be that much of an issue to run.

Oh, but they are.

You know the computer I've built. It can't handle them.

I mean I can open 70 Firefox browsers. But if I set them all to automatically visit websites, forget about it. CPU goes into overdrive and all of the browsers get a lag.

My other computer handles it better. Less lag. It makes no sense as my other computer has shittier everything (except maybe the motherboard).

I like seeing them running. Unless it will help with performance, I don't mind having the browsers visible/easily accessible.

So I set the CPU back to AUTO, which was supposed to get the base speed back to 3.70GHz. But after a restart and a shut down, it's still sitting at 4.00 GHz when I check in task manger. However it seems to behave at 3.70GHz judging by the performance it exhibits on the left.

What the fuck? I guess I'll go turn on Virtualization again, see if that kicks Windows into correcting it.

Enabling virtualization showed correctly in task manager, but CPU base speed sitting at 4.00 GHz.

I changed CPU to manual, but set the lower options as they were under Auto (3700 and 1.21250v).

I restarted and now windows shows base speed 3.70 GHz.

Then I went into BIOS again and set it to Auto again and restarted.

Now it shows 3.70 GHz. Whether it's actually running on auto or manual, who the hell knows. I set it on auto in BIOS, but, this computer respects nothing.
