Building New Computer!

Well, i found something in BIOS called "Easy driver installer." I ran it because fuck it, i figure the motherboard wont install anything negative, plus if windows updates missed any drivers, the motherboard should get them.

Im gonna set my ram to all Auto in Bios, then see if Ram utilization increases.

I figure, at XMP Profile 1 the pc was suicidal crashing constantly. At XMP Profile 2 it works with no crashes, but maybe its still kinda depressed :p

So ill just set it to auto and let the computer do whatever it feels comfortable with.
 
On auto it gets the ram down to 2400MHz. Everything is considerably slower now. My god, for what im doing there is an enormous difference in speed from 3000mhz to 2400mhz. Yuge difference.

And yet, the ram usage will not go above 52%. Something is preventing it from going higher.
 
Im sorry for bugging you all and posting over and over again. I just want to finish doing this shit and get on woth my work. But something keeps popping up.

I tried reseating the new ram in another slot. Same behavior.

Im running windows memory diagnostics test now. Ill see if it detects any errors.

When its done ill try to run with just the original 2 ram sticks, just to see how far up ram usage goes and how it performs.

Something that came to mind now that could be the culprite of my problem. My motherboard manual says that i cant run dual channel with 3 ram sticks. But CPU-Z says im running dual channel.

Thats an inconsistency, and so it would make sense its a problem. Like maybe it tries to run dual channel but cant, so even though it recognizes all the ram, it doesnt utilize some of it. Could be the problem.

I dont know a single thing about dual channel. I just assumed its automatically set by the motherbord based on the ram it detects. But maybe the mothetboard is being lazy, or maybe thats not how it works at all. Maybr i need to manually set whether im running dual channel or not. Hmmm. Ill google that while windows does this memory test.
 
I hate setting up computers myself, not a hardware guy. Because if I do set them up myself then I just waste a full day trying to find the issue :D Anyway, good luck and maybe create a tutorial how to set up your own pc with good parts etc, how to know which motherboard to buy, which gpu will fit, which cpu will fit etc etc. Definitely would watch.
 
So im currently running 2 computers that are doing the exact same work. My old computer is utilizing ram better for some reason.

My new pc refuses to use more than 50% of the ram, ive been watching it for like an hour. And on the other hand my CPU is going crazy, hitting 100% for every little thing.

Clearly something is wrong.

Clearly you got too much ram for that CPU.. And probably the 50% ram usage is true as you would need to run lots of things to fill up those 48gb. The processor is what is bottlenecking your work here.

Maybe running xeon processor for the programs you need them for would be a wiser choice in this case.. as it would have more threads and cores.

Ok so i changed the XMP profile.

See i bought ram that is advertised as 3200. So naturally i set it at XMP Profile 1 that is 3200. And while i had 2x16GB = 32 Gigs of ram it was working just fine.

But then i added another 16GB, the exact same specs as the other 2 rams, and it started crashing for some reason.

Noe i changed it to XMP profile 2, which is 3000MHz. I tuened it on, ran my programs, all of them, and no crashed no problems whatsoever. Yaaaay :) :) :)

Out of curiosity ill try to find out on google why this happened.

Did you turn on hyperthreading in the BIOS?
 
Looks great, only complaint is the AMD CPU. Intel>AMD a thousand times over when it comes to cores.
 
ohhhh my god lol.

first thing you need to set up the correct wires on the pins to start the motherboard from starting and restarting.

when you got the pins correctly fitted to correct wires your then be able to use the case buttons correctly.

after that, you need to put the ram in a and b but must be same ram size and speed as a pair.

if you do all that properly and the computer plays up booting make sure no metal touching the motherboard as this can make a computer play up botting.

make sure the bios is set to m.2 SSD

also, make sure booting order is correctly chosen

most motherboard hardware work of drivers the disc has to be fully installed.

most motherboard bios got diagnostics to show the current setting.

the only thing I didn't like was the power pack 600/amp bit small 800.amp would have been better.

always take advantage of harddrive insurance if ever offered.

this is the ram i fully recomend for that mother board but in pairs .

hahahahaa that's funny :D I needed that.

The windows memory diagnostics came back with no errors. The memory usage on the computer is at 57%, while the CPU hitting 100% for every little thing.

So I have 2 computers, and I am running the exact same things on both of them:

PC 1 - Gigabyte B450 AORUS Pro | DDR4 48GB (3x16GB) 3200MHz C18 | Ryzen 5 2600X

PC 2 - ASROCK B450 Steel Legend | DDR4 48GB (3x16GB) 3200MHz C16 | AMD Ryzen 7 2700X

Those are the main specs, I won't list GPU and PSU and other stuff...

PC 1 - Has been running for 3 days, operating at about 95% CPU and 83% Memory at the moment

PC 2 - Has been running for 12 hours, operating at about 100% CPU and 54% Memory at the moment

Both PCs are running the Exact same programs, the same amount of programs, the same everything. Clearly my requirements need the computer to use more ram, but the second one refuses to, and so it falls on the CPU, and so it struggles.

I don't know man. I'm losing hope.

So I don't have much more left in me for this stuff. I'll play around with it a little more, then I'll just put the computer to work as much as it can handle and move on to my other work. Fuck it, I tried, at some point I have to cut my losses and move on.

I'm reminded of quote from a movie. Van WIlder, the first one.

Well, I didn't write that down but I remember it and it applies here.

But before I go...

I turned off both computers and on again, and am turning on my programs and monitoring usage.

At 20 programs both PCs are for the most part at 1% CPU, the old PC at 15% memory and the new PC at 17% memory.

At 30 programs both PCs are for the most part at 2% CPU, the old PC at 21% memory and the new PC at 23% memory.

At 40 programs both PCs are for the most part at 2% CPU, the old PC at 28% memory and the new PC at 30% memory.

At 50 programs both PCs are for the most part at 3% CPU, and both seem to be at 37% memory.

At 60 programs both PCc are for the most part at 3% CPU, and both seem to be at 43% memory.

At 70 programs both PCs are for the most part at 5% CPU, the old PC at 49% memory and the new PC at 50% memory.

Ok, well so far both computers are behaving in the same way.

I just noticed that my old PC (Ryzen 5 2600x) has CPU Base Speed 3.89GHz, while my new PC (Ryzen 7 2700X) has CPU base speed 3.70GHz. I don't know what that does exactly. Shouldn't the better newer more expensive CPU have higher? Meh. The old PC does not drop below 3.85GHz CPU usage, while the neww PC I've seen it go as far down as 3.40GHz.

So I'm just observing the performance in task manager. Both PCs are sitting there, doing absolutely nothing. I won't even touch the mouse on either of them to not cause any inconsistencies...

The old PC is now down to 45% memory usage, while the new PC is sitting at 50% steady. The old PC has increased CPU usage, now it's running at about 10%+, while the new PC is stilling at 5% at most. BUT, the old PC is sitting stable at 3.85GHz CPU usage, while the new PC is fluctuating in CPU GHz usage like crazy, going up and down from as low as 3.40GHz to as high as 3.97GHz.

I don't remember exactly, but maybe I OCd my CPU on my old computer, and that's why the CPU is operating at higher GHz base speed and is more stable. Maybe that's why my new PC is struggling with the CPU? Ok seriously. The problem I have with the new PC is that the CPU usage is spiking too much, going from low to high all the time, while the old PC is much more stable with the CPU usage. And now observing the performance of both CPUs, it's this GHz shit behaving in the exact same way, and both PCs are doing nothing!!!

According to a graph I found online, the CPU base speed for Ryzen 5 2600x should be 3.6 GHz, while for Ryzen 7 2700x should be 3.7 GHz. My Ryzen 7 is correct, my Ryzen 5 is... overclocked? I think.

Well, before I continue I'll go in BIOS and try to overclock the CPU, just a little. I've never tried overclocking a CPU actually. If I did it on my other PC it was by mistake :D

Well anyway, I'll give that a shot...
 
I'm observing both computers in CPU-Z.

The CPU Core Speed on my old PC (Ryzen 5 2600X) is sitting at about 3888-3890MHz, never really moving much below or above. Very Very Stable.

The CPU Core Speed on my new PC (Ryzen 7 2700X) is going Fucking Crazy. Goes to 2900 then 4100 then 2800 then 4200 and it keeps doing that. Why such large fluctuations asshole?

I also checked my other 2 PCs, both running Ryzen 3 2200G. Both of them have CPU Base Speed at 3.50 GHz, but most importantly both are hard at work right now, been working for days, and both are running at about 3.40GHz, and STABLE.

Ok so I have 3 computers running fine, all of them with no major fluctuations in CPU GHz usage. And then I have my new computer not running fine, and fluctuating in CPU GHz usage like mad.

Maybe the new CPU was made with like a power-saving thing, so it goes down when idle to try and save itself some power. But fuck that, don't save nothing, boost performance asshole.

Meh, I don't know...

Anyway I didn't start this to test the CPU, I did it to check the ram. But the ram appears to be cool, at least when I'm not using the PC very much. It's consistent with my other computers. The CPU though is inconsistent. It's too unstable with the MHz core speed. Maybe it's by design, or maybe it's a bug/faulty cpu or something.
 
Ok I loaded BIOS UEFI defaults, my CPU is at 3.70GHz base speed and my RAM is at 2400 MHz.

According to what I'm reading:

For most Ryzen CPUs 3.9 to 4.2 GHz—via multiplier—is the ceiling people hit when attempting an overclock. The second generation Ryzen parts (specifically the 2600, 2600X, 2700, and 2700X) will typically do 200-300MHz more than the first-gen parts.

Ryzen responds best to CPU voltages (or VCore) of around 1.35-1.37V.

So I set my Frequency to 4.0, and my Voltage to 1.35.

Fuck it, let's see what happens.
