Building New Computer!

So im doing a bit of testing. I plugged in another 16GB of ram from my other computer.

This ram is the same as the other 2 ram chips in the computer, except this one is CL18 while the other teo are 16CL.

People online say if CL is different it may work or may not work. You can only find out of you try.

So i tried. After turning it on i got the blue error screen and the pc restarted and took me to BIOS. So i went and turned off the XMP profile, i set it to AUTO.

Now the computer turned on fine. And it seems to recognize all the ram. I have 48gb running.

Im checking in CPU-z and it says "Channel # Dual"

But how? The motherboard says you cant run dual channel with 3 ram sticks. Confused o_O

In task manager under ram performance says im running 2400mhz. But all 3 ram slots are 3200mhz. Ill restart again and try to set manual 3200 mhz and see what happens
 
Haha so i did it and it refused to turn on.

So i removed the extra ram chip, and it turned on but it took it longer than usual. Then i went onto bios and the mhz was back to 2400. I guess the pc self-adjusted it back.

Ok, never mind, ill run it at 2400 with 48gb just to test something.

Well, I'm not very happy. My other computer outperforms my new computer for my needs. Go figure.

The new PC has a better ssd m.2, the other one is not m.2 and not nearly as good. The new PC has a thousand times better gpu, and a much better psu, and ryzen 7 2700x while the old pc has ryzen 5 2600x.

The motherboard, well I paid more for the motherboard that I have on my old PC, it's a Gigabyte B450 Aorus Pro, while my new PC has Asrock B450 Legend Steel. I don't understand much about motherboards, but they should be the same. They both support the same stuff (64GB ram, overclocking mhz etc etc).

The only thing the old PC has better at the moment is 48GB of 3200MHz and CL18 ram, running at 2933MHz.

The new PC has 32GB of 3200MHz and CL16 ram, and I tested it at 3200MHz but it's just less ram in comparison for a real test. Then I added another 16GB 3200MHz and CL18 to the computer, but I immediately encountered a compatibility problem where I had to change back the XMP to auto to get it to work, and it would only run at 2400MHz. Doing this brought the computer close to the performance my other computer has, but not quite there. But ok, it was running at lower MHz and had 2 ram sticks with CL16 and one ram stick with CL18 that were not super compatible.

Anyway... I'm not very happy...

Tomorrow I should get the fans, they should help a tad bit with the temperature/airflow. And I'll also order another 16GB or 32GB ram for the new PC. I can't decide because I really only need 16GB more, but if I just get 16GB more I will end up with 3 ram chips, and the motherboard - according to the manual - can't do dual channel with 3 ram chips. So I'm not sure what to do here. The last 16GB of ram won't really help me, but will allow me to keep my dual channel thing (actually running with 3 sticks like I mentioned above I checked CPU-Z program and it said I'm running Dual Channel. So I don't know. Is the motherboard manual wrong, is CPU-Z detecting wrong, I don't know).

After I get and mount the fans and get the extra ram, I'll test again and compare my old PC with my new PC. They are both set in the Exact same way and perform the Exact same functions (programs, windows OS, everything in terms of software and my usage is Exactly the same To a T.)

Man, they don't make them like they used to :D

Okay guys, the 16GB of ram have arrived, and the 3 fans have arrived.

I'll go put in the ram, and one fan in the back of the case to take out air.

I was planning to put the other 2 fans on the 2 fan spaces on the side of the case, but after reading online I'm not so sure. It seems it's advised to put fans in the front and in the back, for airflow. But I'm not sure if the front of the case has like areas for fans/screws. But even if it does, do I remove the front cap? Not sure.
 
Ok guys I have good news and I have so so news.

The so so news is that I let the ball down and got careless with ordering the fans and I ordered too small size ones. I don't wanna use these baby ones on my new computer. They don't fit well anywhere on the box. The box needs bigger fans.

That said, for the good news, I ordered 3 fans, and I have 3 other computers, and none of them has a fan at the back of the case, and they've all collected dust there. Not good. So I'll put the 3 fans on my other 3 computers, and I'll order new and bigger fans for my new computer.

Done and done! :)
 
Ok I plugged in the new 16GB of Ram, the computer turned on with no problems. Now I have 48GB of 3200MHz and CL16 ram. It's recognized by the computer, and operating at 3200MHz proper.

However, there is 1 inconsistency. Either somebody is very wrong, or I'm not understanding something.

In my Motherboard Manual it clearly states that Dual Channel Memory is NOT possible with 1 or 3 ram sticks. And I now have 3 ram sticks plugged in.

But I googled on how to check if I'm running dual channel memory, and everyone says to check with CPU-Z. So I did that, and the program says I'm running Channel -> Dual

So I don't know. It doesn't make sense.

Anyway, that's it. No more hardware upgrades for the computer. Just need to get 1 or 2 more fans for it, the correct size, and then it will be finito.

So i got the extra ram and plugged it in and the computer was running very well. I started pushing it turning on programs and getting things going, feeling real good.

But of course i cant have my cake and eat it too.

Then i got the blue error screen, crash, the computer restarted. Then i turned on my programs again and continued doing what i was doing, and then programs started crashing, and crashing. Ahh..

I turned the computer off for a few minutes. Now its on again and ill try to push it. If it crashes again or my programs start crashing, well, off the top of my head ill go and disable XMP and set the memory back to Auto in Bios. Then ill take it from there...
 
Oh for fucks sake. I was turning on programs and a few were crashing here and there. The moment i turned on the last program i wanted, i got computer crash, blue screen, restart. What the fuck...

It was running without crashes before i added the new ram. And i also made some minor changes to the programs im using since i put in the new ram.

Well, ill try XMP Profile 2. If theres still problems ill set it on auto. If theres still problems ill roll back my programs. If theres still problems... we'll see...
 
Ok so i changed the XMP profile.

See i bought ram that is advertised as 3200. So naturally i set it at XMP Profile 1 that is 3200. And while i had 2x16GB = 32 Gigs of ram it was working just fine.

But then i added another 16GB, the exact same specs as the other 2 rams, and it started crashing for some reason.

Noe i changed it to XMP profile 2, which is 3000MHz. I tuened it on, ran my programs, all of them, and no crashed no problems whatsoever. Yaaaay :) :) :)

Out of curiosity ill try to find out on google why this happened.

So im currently running 2 computers that are doing the exact same work. My old computer is utilizing ram better for some reason.

My new pc refuses to use more than 50% of the ram, ive been watching it for like an hour. And on the other hand my CPU is going crazy, hitting 100% for every little thing.

Clearly something is wrong.
