Building links to facebook page, http or https?

With FB pages being https, do you build the link using https or http?
Any other advice?
I'm trying to rank a keyword, and don't want to waste a domain on getting penalized.

I consider the answer is http. People who use https will be automatically redirected to https and who don't will stay on http. Moreover, https is slower

I chose http as that was what was already showing up in the serps for my page.
